Hi guys,

Well, it turns out I've got to bail on the Bellett Nationals.

My wife's been diagnosed with breast cancer at age 34, which needless to say is total bullshit.

It's been a bit of an emotional roller coaster; it was a small lump, then an MRI suggested there was a lot more of it, then further investigations revealed it actually was a small lump! Confuseding! So in that time, we were told 'lumpectomy', then 'mastectomy', then back to 'lumpectomy'.

Anyway, she had lumpectomy surgery on Friday and is on the road to recovery which is great.

I thought I might be in the clear to attend the Tasmanian Nats, but then the next issue is that she will need radiation therapy starting in about 8 weeks and going for around the same amount of time. Obviously with a by-then-to-be-three-year-old to wrangle around our full time jobs, it's just not looking possible.

I'm not writing it off completely, but have advised Steve T of my apologies; unless I'm able to pull it together at the last minute, I'm not going to make it.

Damned shame, because I was keen to drive those beautiful Tasmanian roads in my GTR! Plus I decided to do something about the smelly fumes on lift-off and now it's getting a full engine rebuild! The aim was to have it together by October and I can't see a problem with that, but it looks like I'll just be bringing it home, not fanging it around Tasmania.

Priorities!

Hope to see you there, but you can see why I probably won't. The Carey household has had a shit of a year in 2014; onwards and upwards for 2015, with any luck!

Cheers,

Dave

Wow Dave, that is terrible for anyone, but for one so young its just wrong.
Priorities are sometimes dictated by circumstance, but I believe you have yours right. Don't worry about missing this one, you will be there in spirit, although I will miss the latenight Bellett discussion. Hopefully other South Aussies will be there to parlez with Gav. We can look forward to Qld 2015.

Sounds like early detection is on your side, we hope the treatments are a total success and Sarah has a complete and permanent recovery.
Love and prayers,
Matt & Tracy.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the good vibes, both on here and via PMs.

Sarah was given the all-clear to fly to NZ today for a holiday she had booked months ago, before any of this happened. So the benefits are two-fold; one) it will take her mind off the situation and two) she will not be using up her sick leave recuperating!

She's been told the tumor was actually a Type III cancer, which is apparently very aggressive and he made it no secret that he was glad it was caught early. Because of the type of tumor, it means she will need radiation therapy AND chemo therapy! This treatment will see us out for the rest of 2014, so we'll see how it all goes, I guess.

I was always quite partial to even-numbered years, but this one isn't doing us any favours!

Thanks again everyone and while I'm not going to get on here and bore you to tears with medical mumbo jumbo, I will keep my friends informed if there's anything significant to report. However, this is one of those things were NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!

Cheers,

Dave

Dave & Sarah.
Deeply saddened too hear that another young person has been touched by the dreaded cancer.
Having been through the same situation, we found that the strength from both parteners helped.
You will go through some highs and lows. At times you may wonder. Why?.
The Bellett family, as you have already experienced, are a loving and caring group. I would expect a
great majority have been affected. One way or another. Please use their strength as well.
I wish you both all the best and for Sarah to overcome all the hurdles. There will be many.
A big hugg from me.

Dave.

It's just so unfair and random that the wrong people have to go through this........

Sarah is strong and she will get through this out the other end stronger. Hang in there mate.

As for the fangn'...com'on.....I'll still be hangin' around, so we can do something parralell here in SA to celeberate. (just can't make the means to get to Tassie, sorry guys).

Not good news to hear mate but hope all goes well for Sarah with the treatment.
Early detection is a good thing though so that's something positive to keep in mind.
Lean on your support network mate, that's what they (and us) are there for.

Sorry to read the news Dave.
Same thing happened to my sister-in-law when she was 24. Now she's over 50 with 3 children and 2 grand-kids.
Best wishes to you and Sarah from Suzanne and myself.
