Dohc isn't overrated, just no one in aus has really pushed one yet. My friend had an internally stock with stock cams with twin 40mm dellortos G200W in a Gemini and it made 116rwhp. Aquarius sports in Japan has an all singing 2.2L G200W making 220hp.

You can bore a G180W to 2L capacity. They don't blow head gaskets if they don't ping! Plus Thomas4parts make mls gaskets for them.

I can't see why you can't run a 117 coupe style twin webered G180W with some tasty head work and big cams under those rules. The engine with the old type rocker cover looks like and essentially IS a 1960s engine, remember the Bellett GT-R came out in the 60s with basically the same engine. It is a copy of the Alfa gtv dohc design except the Isuzu head outflows the Alfa.

After my group A car is painted I'll be diving into the build of my G180W ZZ Gemini engines, I'm restricted by stock intake and exhaust manifolds but I'm confident of achieving 150rwhp.

I think you need to spend a fair amount of money though to get 150+ rwhp. The old story really, hp costs money, how fast do you want to go? Even a basic rebuild on an engine these days costs serious money. What hp does that equate to at the flywheel? And at what rpm? For a street car, personally i think mid range torque makes a much more driveable and lively feeling engine. For racing, different matter it seems.

You're right Glen, building engines is a huge part of a motorsport budget, and the risk attached to building a W engine is multiplied by the fact I could get drummed out of the Brownies without turning a wheel.
The fact is Red, that the regs are a little more detailed than the basic outline I posted a while ago, for instance, from memory, blocks are inter-changeable providing all the components are as well, so technically you can't substitute a 3 bearing block for 5 bearing job......nobody's counting bearings yet, but they might well count cams!

Anyway here's a shot of DB exiting the chicane during his race.

And here's one of me getting ready for one of the McLaren Tribute runs....damn that auto focus, it seems to have a mind of it's own ;)

I guess it helps that I'm a qualified mechanic and own my own workshop! The main expense for me will be getting the head and manifolds ported and flow bench tested, normally I do my own porting but on this car I want as much hp as possible and if you aren't flow benching the head you just aren't in the game. The rest of a performance engine build differs little from a regular build cost wise, just more labour to cover the extra attention to detail.

150rwhp will equate to about 185 flywheel hp. John White and Geoff Conway informed me they were revving it to 8200rpm when they raced it back in the day.. Once I have my flow bench figures I'll be testing different cam profiles and secondary lengths on an engine analyser program so I get close to the mark without spending hours on the dyno.

Doing your own work will help heaps.

And after getting through the Merc and the Fiat, I set about chasing down a fast but slowly driven Anglia, you can see it here to my right, in front of the Merc.

After a few laps I eventually caught the Anglia up, and rather shoved my way through....a trip to the body shop is now necessary....but despite of this I'm pleased with the result.

And finally here's a shot that kind of sums up the madness of the St Mary's Trophy.

Cheers GT, and glad to hear you're on the mend Davo....I think the Cortina was more concerned than me...I don't remember him being there! The Mini in the flower bed had probably caught my attention.
Here's the final standings..

Mark,
Sunday the 8th Nov I went to a Swap Meet in the small NSW Country town of Gulgong.

During the morning a fellow came up to me and started talking about a sedan he owned all of a sudden the story was familiar, the fellow was Garry from Coonabarabran in NSW, the original owner of Rollie!!! :o
Garry spoke to me on the whole history of Rollie and spoke of Greg and his negotiations to buy Rollie and how delighted he is with what you have done with and continue to do with Rollie. :D

It is a small world, as you can see I own a GT and that was the reason that prompted Garry to talk to me, what a nice Guy and is still interested in Belletts, Garry checks out this web site often to keep up with your progress. Gulgong is about 2 hours from Coonabarabran and he had driven over for the swap meet.
It is a very small world at times.
Cheers, Dave M.

Small world indeed Dave...but I wouldn't like to paint it, so they say.
It's really pleasing to know the car's development is being followed by one of it's earliest owners.

With regards to the next stage, we're looking to re-fettle the current SOHC engine for next season, but in the longer term we're going to push to get the car recognised by the FIA in it's present form...discs, twin carbs and the like, (we will obviously have to go back to the push rod engine)

This is going to be difficult as there appears to be a lack of homologation papers showing any form of racing spec...but we have plans, watch this space.

Just received a fantastic set of photographs taken by Julie Amos. They are so good, it would be rude not to share a few of them with the forum, I hope you like them.

The first is in the collecting area getting ready to go out in the Bruce McLaren Tribute.

The second is on track with the Tribute....the Mini van with the huge wing behind me, is the vehicle the legendary McLaren designer Gordon Coppock used to test their rear wings, and guess who was sitting in the back of it that day?...Yes, it was the old man himself. He showed me how the central linkage translated the wing action onto a set of bathroom scales in the back of the van!!!!

In front is McLaren's own M8 road car.

Two really good shots of David Brabham lining up for his race. I like the way they're all eyeing each other up.

I like this one as it shows how much is going on at the start of the race, and the huge crowds the Revival draws.
