yes yes it is upside down! thats the way i bought it and how the previous owners had it..u can even see where the leaf spring holders have bent and broken cos they had it in the wrong way...i have to get onto that next just have to find some urethane to redo the rubber bushes for it.

waldo i gave a set of old rubbers to bhss in capalaba and they made me a few sets of urethane blocks to match. If this helps they can do your brakes also if you need them done.

Waldo, what did you use to remove all the old paint/deadener?
I scraped all the crap off my 'old' GT when I did it. From under the car though. What a job !

yes its POR-15 metal treated then painted. it did take me a fair bit of time..the car was light enough for myself to just pick it up and roll it over which made it a whole lot easier on my body. To get the deadener off i just used a few paint stripping discs the blue ones from bunnings. works well but if you held the disc on the deadener to long it would just heat the deadener up and melt it onto the disc so you have to do it slowly.

Waldo, how much of that POR do you need and what's it cost ?

Post subject:  Re: Waldo's GTR Build

its pretty expensive i bought a 4ltr tin of it for about $180...but u need to make sure its all bare metal u cant just paint over old paint, and u have to spray POR-15 metal ready onto the bare metal before you paint...this preps the metal for the por-15 also use their marine clean before you use the metal ready its like a super degreaser! the metal ready turns the metal into a redish colour that looks like surface rust a bit as u can see in the photo thats bare metal. u must get that redish colour on the metal before you paint the por-15....its a long and quite painful process.

Not real cheap but I used spray on sound deadening and u need quite a few tins.

If you get on POR -15 Website they show them smashing a painted pipe denting the pipe but no chipping of the paint

Yes bought the system the other day hopefully $300 well spent

Cheers

its not to bad but i wouldnt really say its that strong i think it will still eventually chip but it is stronger than normal killrust paint...its sort of acidic and absorbs moisture...make sure u wear gloves when painting as when this stuff gets on your hands it doesnt come off for about a month as it eats into your skin a lot more than normal paint.

Ok time for a small update progress is slow as everything i want for this car costs big $$...finally received my rear rotors so i can now start fabricating the caliper mounts. Customized 4 piston wilwood calipers with intergrated mechanical handbrake!

And yes the wheels do fit under the gaurds! JUST! only because of the negative camber.
