Hi Chris,
I don't know how I missed this thread before, but I have just gone back and read it from page one. Nice project, and a great job so far.

With regards to your inter-cooler dilemma, I remember a GT that was in the NSW Bellett car club running a twin cam turbo with either the oil cooler or inter-cooler radiator in the cabin air box. You know, under the grill just in front of the windscreen. Don't know if that might help.

Keep the project going, and it will all be worth it in the end.

I was putting a Piazza Turbo motor in a GT some years back. I used Mazda RX7 intercooler but i imagine a custom made one would suit better. I got it all in, in front of the radiator, down low as possible. Radiator moved back a bit also. Possibly a custom made one, a bit thinner than the usual, but bigger area might fit yours.

The Piazza motor though doesn't have the distributor on the rear like your motor so there was some space up front as engine was further back than yours. Very tight though.

After doing all the work, i decided later that the GT was too good to modify, so pulled it all out. Car was alter sold and is back on the road these days.

I started this so long ago... back when I was single living st home... no mortgage, bills... just me... 20 yrs later... I just want to get it back on the road... if I had the time again I wouldn’t have started it... but you do things when your young and enjoy it meet people doing the same thing... at the moment in the shed it looks like one of those barn find pictures.. covered in dust and cobwebs.. maybe one day it will get going but for now... the little things and moments I get it feels good to work on it. I think it’s taken me 3 yrs just to get the exhaust sort of almost there... I went to put the grill in.... sort of trying to make it look more complete... and bugger.... all those yrs ago... I remember throwing away the original light mount backing after I found some other ones thinking they were the same... now I am stuck... can I get some original ones.. or maybe I’ll have to see if I can make some sort of bracket to adapt it... all the challenges of life... agh just something else to think about...

Chris
I moved house 3 years ago and threw out heaps of light brackets collected over the years. Not much help for you but I did keep a couple 'just in case'. I will have look to see if have what you need, asap. I have though in the past modified them to fit other grille types by welding on small brackets in the grille hole locations.

As you say, time is the limiting thing.
I will definately have some in my mountain of storage boxes. Its just a matter of going diving. I am away for a week, but will get in there next week as it is school holidays. (I have to get in and find some bits for Neville too, which is long overdue.)
PM me your address and I will send some over.
Cheers, Matt.

Have to say a huge Thanks to Matt... he sent me 2 one was perfect... better than perfect. The other I have to fabricate the grill mounts, but I am on my way...

If you do know of anyone that has one? It will probably take me a long time to make the brackets..

Thanks again Matt..

Chris

Post subject:  Re: 69 Deluxe Sedan

I'm glad to help, but sorry that I didn't have a pair. I haven't ever owned a '69, so it came in a box of bits. For the readers, the difference is that diagonal pair of brackets for the grille ends is not on the '66 1/2 to '68 mounts. I would (probably should have) just bend a strip of metal, pop rivet it on and drill a small hole to take a self tapper.
Your car is beautiful, cant wait to see it on the road!
Cheers, Matt.

Thought I’d give it a start... fuel lines split, so had fuel all over the boot and under the car.. another thing to sort...

I’ve been working away getting it mobile again, tyres after 25 years it was due for a fresh set... plus they sort of started rotting, won’t hold any air... started with a fresh polish and all the black blasted and painted.

Hey Chris

Your car is almost there and looking awesome.

Jim from AAA Exhaust was great and offered good advise.

Next year we have all Japan day and of course the Nationals in September in Hahndorf.

I know it gets hard to find the time - mine has been off the road for a year with a head recon and oil pump replacement.

But this forum is great as it encourages us to get our great cars back on the road to enjoy, where they belong.

Cheers
Flying

Won’t make the All Japan Day, but I am working towards the Nationals... I’ve done 2 wheels and got 2 more on the way... so fingers crossed I’ll be able to roll it out of the shed by Christmas... then the fun begins... fuel lines, exhaust just need to finish that off and so many little things... but haven’t started it in at least 2 years so going to go through all the bits... feels good having a play with it.
