Some of you will remember the Datsun 200B steelies that Donkey use to roll on from previous National meets.
Well their original 4.5" width just wasn't filling the rear arches enough for my liking so I've just had 2 of them widened a little.
Out with the 4.5's and in with the 7's
I still have to get them powder coated yet and tyres fitted but you can see how PH phat they're going to be.....

I was going to go with 8" widend rims but to do that I'd have to go 15 or 16 inch rims for the inner lip to clear the top spring seat, but I can't find any steel rims that I like other then ugly "pursuit rims" with the required 4x114.3 PCD

......oh and just incase anyone wants to know, you need a backset of 4 & 13/16th inches on 13 or 14 inch rims (gives approx 3or4mm clearance to spring seat and 7-10mm to the outer guard - so choose the right tyres!! MAX 205wide)
And another thing is..... you need 2 jacks to change wheels too :?

RIP Donkey

His heart gave out on him last night at 8:47pm
We were out for one of our usual 80mph thrashes though the windy back roads of Griffin when he seemed to get a bit wheezy, then came the unsettling THWAP THWAP CLUNKITY CLUNK BANG!! Hiiisssssssssssssss

Water pump blew it's guts and spat the fan off the front

Doesn't seem to have done any other damage but I guess I have no more excuses now not to put the new motor in......

I've heard of heart transplants on humans but not a "Donkey".
I'm very surprised it lasted untill now. When we went to Merimbullah it was wheasing and releasing green 'blood'.
RIP Donkey engine. Hope the new engine stands to the reputation of the old. .........And doesn't tear his innards out.

Dave.

That's true dave, it seemed to be on it's last legs back then but it still kept putting up with the punishment I threw at it day in and day out.
But he was really starting to struggle these past few months.
Unbeknownst to many, Donkey was more than a mere daily driver to and fro work.
He was a pack mule at the same time. He regularly carried anything upto 300kg of tools, timber step treads, bags of cement, step ladders, tins of paint and whatever else could be crammed into the back (seat has been removed for years for extra cargo space) and boot to be lugged across town for any job I could wrangle.
Anyone who has participated in or tagged onto one of our road trips or club cruises knows how hard I push it too. Racing Mr Orphanage n Ol Yella up n down mountain roads being our most favored of past times.

But he'll be back and healthier than ever, ready for some fangin' in Toowoomba come September....... count on it!!

UPDATE TIME......

Donkey is still missing in action but the "Family" love runs deep for this little guy (work has interrupted engine install - ready to go just no time to slip it in)

A massive high five to one of my SA brothers for Donkeys new pig valve to steady his new heartbeat..... you know who you are.... and yes - YOU ARE A LEGEND!!

Post subject:  Re: Dear Donkey.....

Well it looks like my project workshop space is about to be gone :(
I have 3 projects on the go atm in the back section of a mates shed but as all the surrounding properties have been chewed up and spat out as housing estates it was only a matter of time before they carved up this place. Nathan has lived on the family owned fruit farm (3 generations) all his life at Griffin/North Lakes (5 mins from home) and it has always been somewhere we have hung out to build/play/thrash n even crash cars.
Developers have been in negotiations with his family for years and we knew the day would come but it is always a shock when it does. Yesterday the call from the lawyers came and they now officially have only 3 months until the dozers pull in.
That means I have to get 3 projects out of there.
Donkey has only an engine and gearbox to drop in so no biggies there but the other 2 are still a looooong way off. 1 is currently a bare shell on a rotisserie about to go to the sandblaster and the other is only a rolling shell getting some minor rust repairs, an engine upgrade and fresh paint job.
I think my progress on these 2 will slow dramatically until I figure out another option.

Hmmmmm if I had 2 more shipping containers side by side with the walls between cut out I think I could manage......

WOW Sticky that is not good news for you, maybe Greg might be of assistance, those Guys are the best, unless they are too far away for you!

sticky knows where he could drop them off ;) ATM sticky we have a empty workshop with a hoist if you want to finish donkey's heart transplant if we get a tenant that will change but I assume Donkey wants to go to Toowoomba.

Post subject:  Re: Dear Donkey.....

Cheers Mr Orphanage I know you guys are always willing to offer assistance and use of shed space, that is something I have always appreciated greatly :D but I hate using other peoples stuff without their presence, even when they are family (blood relative or otherwise)
Donkey won't be my issue though as his replacement engine went in yesterday (I thought yesterday was Saturday and had the day off to play with him) still have to fire it up and make sure all is sweet but it's finally in. Finding a place to work on the car on the rotisserie will be the biggest issue when time come to move it.

Donkey WILL be in Toowoomba..... even if I have to carry him there on my back :D

Hmmmmm looking for a tenant you say :?:
