Fantastic! I hope it is a permanent location for you, has to be time consuming all that moving! Out if the bedroom, into the shed, you can do a little bit anytime!
Have fun!

Time consuming and very unsettling, and with my usual head space..... that is never a good combination.

The past 4 places I've been have not been entirely suitable for having project cars either. I have had my cars and parts spread over 3 properties all 1/2 to 1 hour away in 3 different directions. That makes it very difficult to make any progress on any of them.

The place I'm leaving has been pretty good as far as being able to play with my cars, but the level of domestic and drug related violence in the neighborhood has become unbearable. I've had many, MANY sleepless nights, multiple visits from the police asking about neighbors, 3 stabbings and 1 fatality all within a 6 house radius :| and that's just in 4.5 months of being here. I knew the area I was moving into was bad but nothing could have prepared me for THAT.

At least now I will be able to have all my babies in the one home together with nothing but serenity out the front door and knowing my family is just down the road :D
Happier days ahead

Mate, you are so much beter off out of there! Even without any direct threat, it drags down your quality of life. Its sad that living that way is the norm for some.
Your new abode should bring you much joy. Take care moving and enjoy getting all your cars and pars together.

I haven't been able to drive Donkey for about a month or so as he has been having starter motor issues (been playing up for about 18mths)
I bought a spare one for $50 at a wreckers in Adelaide while there for the 2013 Nats and decided to fit it about 2 weeks ago.
Unfortunately the starter motor doesn't seem to want to spin up too well (was told it was pulled out of a 65 sedan in 1997 so may need pulling apart for a clear up maybe ??)
Anywho, I needed to get Donkey sorted ready for my roadtrip to Tamworth in 3 days time so I have done the unthinkable........

I pinched the starter motor out of the Wasp :o

I will now have to try to find someone who can rebuild old starters now as my backups all seem to be un-usable

Hi Sticky.

I've got a couple you can have a look at and see if their OK. I don't think I will need them as all my cars
have the late model starters in them. I'm going to Toowoomba next Saturday and I could drop them off on the way.
This OK with you.

Your a legend Dave :P only thing is, I will be in Tamworth for the Shannons car show next Saturday with OSJCC and ICCA.
Could leave at new place but there is now where under cover to leave it. Unless you can leave at the Orphanage (I'm only 10mins down the "D'Ag" from there now anyway)
??

Sticky.
I can drop then off to the Orphanage. As long as we are discussing the real early starter with the external Bendix drive. :|
I normally drive through to Yarraman to Toowoomba. Can divert across to Kilcoy. Back to Esk, Hampton, Toowoomba. Just another "Wattsy Tiki Tour"` 8-)

Suspect starter is a no go. The terminal for the battery lead not insulated on end plate. Looks like it has
had a cold chisel applied on the main body a few times and damaged the terminal. :o Brushes not square (about 70 degrees) and if were cut to square would be undersize. Commutator leaves are damaged. Probably arcing on end and a great big short.
Number 2 starter fair. Cover for brushes not aligned correctly letting oil and junk into it. There was no split pin in the Bendix retaining nut. Brushes to a minimum. Bendix frozen on shaft. Cleaned the end plate and Bendix spiral. Like I said. Fair.
Number 3 starter good. Doesn't look like it has done much work for its age. Bendix was frozen but didn't take much to release it. Brushes are good. Still a bit of meat on them and the commutator looks good.
I've got nothing to test these properly but I'm going to drop off 2 & 3 for you to play with. I didn't bother reassembling number 1. Leaving it for another day, another time.

Dave.

Can an old Lucas starter be used? Or is there anything interchangeable?

Post subject:  Re: Dear Donkey.....

Now, if all that doesn't work, I have a bunch of them. I had 4 in a box, but then I got 2 more in my most recent aquisition. Then I opened the boxes you brought me from Davo and there were 2 in there! Thats without raiding the parts donors. ;)
Thing is, I've never managed to wear one out! Shrek's was noisy and grindy when I got him, but I just used it a lot with short paddock work, and now it spins up fine.

Haven't really thought about it as yet. Ill be in Brissy. for a week after Toowoomba and Ill have plenty of time then. Just take my maps, dates etc.
Mudgee via Albury sounds good. Another Tiki Tour. Still plan on trailering to all the shows. Although the sedan is a daily runner, it misses on a long run. When it starts missing I give it a bit more throttle and it stops after 10 K's or so. The drive from Bathurst to Mudgee via Sofala and Ilford past the old Hill End turnoff would be a playground for Donkey. Oh! I forgot. Your taking the Wasp aren't you.? Yo'll have to show it what Donkey does.

Luke.
Both starters look physically the same. The Isuzu Minx would have been a template for the starter on the wasp and any 3 bearing sedan. Have been looking at a Morris Minor in the past fortnight and I thought as you have. Will it fit. Looks the same. Are the bolt holes the correct distance. Is the diameter on the end plate right to fit into the engine/transmission plate. Next time I'm looking at the Morry I might start taking some measurements. Nothing short of removing it really. Although my friend might burr up a bit if I do take it off.
I may have an answer sometime this week.

Dave.
