Post subject:  "Save me from the Crusha!!"

The things that show up in a mate's scrap yard.
See, I call in every now & then to see what he's found. There is all kinds of treasure, usually in the form of old trucks. So we walk along the line and Dave says, "This one's probably too good to crush........"
Starts, drives, everything works, upholstery perfect..........even has air-con. 93,000km, and the speedo IS working!

Yep, it's a Sigma...........

So, whats wrong with it?
Well, one tyre is peeling, and its outa fuel........and the radio is gone.

$400? It's coming home with me. :)

The short drive home reveals temp guage not working - the wire was off. And that flapping tread is a bit anoying. The spare was flat, but I pumped it up & it held, so that replaced the wrecked one. Bonus, the Florian wheels fit, & I've got a couple of good spares.
It's crusty with mould from sitting out, and theres no shortage of filth inside, so a good clean is next.

if its the 2.0 ehgine, they go and go and go. and quite economical as well.
my son drove a GSR 2.6 5 speed and it was a real nice car. but a little thirsty.
same colour.

nice score, nothing wrong with the old sigmas as long as they are looked after! I have had 4 of them now and they were all fun little cars!

Thanks fellas, :o to see no howls of "you bought a WHAT??"

It is the 2.6 and a 5 speed. It's surprisingly toey, but I suppose its like a Florian with an extra litre and gear! Motor is quiet & pretty clean - no fumes.
Rhys gave it a scrub with truckwash & a microfibre cloth, and its a lot better.

Checked the brakes - plenty of meat. Handbrake 2 clicks & wheels skid. (Back drums :) )
2 good tyres.
Carpet as new, seats too. 1 small dash crack.

Needs: 1 Tie rod end, leak in radiator top tank fixing, maybe shocks. I think thats it.

At worst its a learn-a-manual for the kids. Might be good enough for a Rhys first car? If not, eligable for historic rego in 18 months. Its simple tech with a Carbie, rear drive, and a shop manual is 10 bucks on ebay. Cheap & cheerful!

Oldcolts (aka Craig, the guy with the Colt from the Adelaide Nationals) would be proud; he's always loved his Siggies!

I have the pleasure of rallying his GSR around his farm block a couple of weeks ago; went well! Even went pretty well on three cylinders (one of the leads had broken off!!!) - it lacked power with a cylinder down, but was remarkably smooth - must be all those balance shafts!

Wow, 2 and a half years ago......
Well, she is getting some love now, from Rhys. We havent found anything better, so might as well put it on the road.

Step 1: Nice shiny new water pump. In stock in Autopro $80. Have already swapped the radiator, $50 from Young wreckers. Fitted a manual choke to the carbie, someone had removed the auto setup.
Might be some life left!

This is why I haven't been working on the Elf.
Six months ago we finally put it on the road. That used radiator ended up leaking, so I got one off the shelf from the rad place in Canberra of $250 with a new core. A couple of good tyres and its away.
Looking back here I see it had 93000ks. Now it has 96000, so Rhys did about 3000 ks of learning in the paddock over the 3 years!

Soof course, it soon started blowing bubbles jn the radiator so, off with its head!

The back 4 head bolts were loose, so it was probably never retensioned after its last gasket replacement.
A vrs kit from ebay for $50 delivered and its back together. Drives a lot better!
