As you may know, the forum software we use doesn't automatically resize photos or scans. This will generally mean you end up with something going off the page and being hard to view, plus it will take an age to upload and take up space.

Using a program to resize it can be a problem, as cheap-arse programs like those that come with Windoze will generally also lose significant quality levels; some of them go grainy or get these weird patterns over them.

I use a copy of Paintshop Pro, however that is also used for scanning etc and is simply overkill if all you need to do is resize stuff!

I found Picture Resize Genius recently and it's a helpful little program that appears, so far, to be free.

It will resize your pics and if will allow you to choose the resolution you need, however if you click on the drop-down arrow next to the resolutions (eg 640x480 or whatever), it gives you some laymans terms; eg avatar, 15" screen, 17" screen etc. This will then resize your pictures for whatever best fits those parameters.

Further to this, it saves them in a special resize folder of your choosing, so it does not over-write your original size photos (although it will if you tell it to).

It's a tidy package and is only about 1.5mb to download (it's compressed pretty well but still only takes up about 3mb which is three-fifths of nothing these days; less than your average 4 megapixel photo!

So get onto it; seems like a good thing if you need it!

I've put this in the "Bellett.net and the forums" section as it is a tool that will specifically help people with their posts should they need it.

Cheers,

Dave

Yeah just on this, it was purported to be 'freeware', but it turns out it's 'shareware' and is a trial version....

So it will work for a couple of weeks, then tell you that you need to buy it. Fair enough; someone put time and effort into creating it, but freeware is normally completely free, so it's all lies! Lies I tells you.

I use Faststone Image viewer.

Full Freeware and does cool stuff like batch re-sizing, which does more than one picture re-sizing, and re-naming
