Went to an event last night that was all about Bathurst in the 60's with drivers, team managers and pit crews who were involved. Drivers included Bob Holden, Barry Seton, Brian Reed, Bob Watson, Fred and Christine Gibson and...... Colin Bond. All were fantastic, and from our point, Bondy was great. Very chatty about Belletts, what they did, how they did, what was good and bad about them (nothing we didn't already know, especially brakes.... the lack there of), and the mods they did to race them. All illegal mods of course, but I'm yet to see a Bathurst car from back then that was completely legal anyway, including mine. I was invited along with the car, and Bondy was rapt to see it. Had a good chat about it and his 2 Bellett sedans in private as well, and had some pics with him and the car. Even got him to sign the glove box lid from the GT that I also took, so now have Ike Treloar's and Colin Bond's signatures together again. Having already got Barry Ferguson to sign his old car a few weeks ago while at Phillip Island makes the set complete (George passed away in 2012 before I got to met him, while the whereabouts of Bruce Darke and Don James are still unknown). All in all, was another great event and a real buzz to meet and chat to living Bellett legends. |
