I have done this in the long distant past but the memory is dim.....

i have recoed the rear brakes and now fitting them back to the car.

PROBLEM. how do you get the lower return spring back in place ??? It's the one with 2 sets of coils on it and is VERY strong.

Originally, it fits behind the brake shoes and fits into the holes in the shoes..... after much effort and swearing and things poping everywhere, i just cannot get it back in.

I have the slave cyclinder fitted first, then the shoes, then try to fit that lower spring. No go.....

I can fit it on the OUTSIDE of the shoes though..... what do people do here? Is there a trick. My workshop manual is useless.

The upper spring is on the outside of the shoes and quite easy to fit as its a fair bit weaker.

HELP !

Glenn, i usually do it with a big set of wire cutters to grab onto the spring and push till it stretches.
you can also fit the spring to the brake shoe with one in place and the other shoe loose in front of the brake. easier to make the adjuster side the fitted shoe and stretch the other shoe.
then pull the shoe with spring attached till it clips into place. then fit the lock pin, spring and circle lock clip.

better to do in the morning when full of energy after good night sleep :)

good luck
