what i know from mucking around inside gemini engines....
g161z and g180 are the same crank and rods, different bore.
g200 is g180 bore and a longer stroke crank.
the g200 block is about 10mm taller than a g161z/g180 block as a result.

i've got both g161z and g180 engines here in bits, so i can check the lengths....
but please understand that events of the last few days, and coming week, are foremost in my mind and i'm busy with life in general too, so it wont be straight away...

oh, and rob, u mean g160 and g161 bellett engines??
if so, 160's are 3 bearing, 161's are 5, so there's a big difference to begin.
both stroke and bore are different between them, but the overall capacity is within a poof-teenth of each other.
as for rod length tho....
?????????????????????????????????????????????????

ohh, and the gemini forums are full of 18yo's who are more interested in their "doof doof steeeeezzzzza's" (stereo's), "full sik bling rolla's" (those crap chrome 19" wheels), and "mega cannon's" (no, not u Rob.... those 7" exhaust tips that are sleeved down to 1.5 exhausts.... as well as rest of that RICE garbage.
there are a few guys that know ALOT about the inner workings of a gemini, but they are very far between....
that's why advice ain't forecoming, coz most just don't know.

Brett,
many thanks for the reply at this time.
I'm just looking around for information, which I thought would already be out there ... silly really ;)

When Bella's engine comes apart, I'm going to be measuring some many things and documenting them.
Any info in the way of deck heights (crank centerline to top of block/top of piston to top of block), rod lengths, gudgeon pin size for G180 and G200's will be greatly appreciated when you have time, and from anyone else :)

Thought the G160 5 bearing was GT, Florian ... G161 was Gemini and late Bellett ... G150/G130 was 3 bearing and later 5 bearing ?

Cheers
Rob

G160 is PR90 3 bearing GT.
G161 is PR91 5 bearing GT, Florian, very late bellett sedan, and early KB20/Chev Luv. GT head was different to the others.

early G150 is 3 bearing bellett sedan.
late G150 is 5 bearing bellett sedan. early 5 bearing engines were iron head, late were alloy.

G161s is SOHC bellett 1600.
G180s is SOHC bellett 1800.
(these are totally different animals to the gemini SOHC 'z' engines. there are some of these 's' engines here in australia.)

G161z is SOHC gemini 1600. also in late KB20/Chev Luv.
G180z is SOHC gemini 1800.
G200z is SOHC gemini 2000. usually in early rodeo's and jackaroo's.

G161w is DOHC 1600, ala bellett gt-r.
G180w is DOHC 1800. usually in 117 coupe's and gemini zz/r's.
G200w is DOHC 2000. usually in piazza's.

ohh, and i know of a "G200" bellett style engine here too. came out of an 'elf' light truck. looks just like a normal bellett OHV engine, but is 2 litre capacity.

hope this helps.

Hi RobSA

The link below will take you to forged rods for the G180 and G200 motor with some specs on them as well but unfortunately they do not list them for the G161Z motor which has rods compatible with the G150 Bellett motor.

From memory the G180 / 200 rods are about 5mm too long for the Bellett G150 motor which would mean lots of noises (or more correctly just one big noise) followed by some pretty blue smoke :(

Here's an update to my previous post.

We can get a special order of Spool conrods for the G150 motor, and i guess others in the Bellett stable (link on previous post) but the catch is a minimum quantity of 36 rods - 9 sets!! I don't think we'll get that many members building fast Belletts.

I've asked for a cost but I suspect it will be in the vicinity of $550 per set.

Thanks YP,

thats the price of the G180/G200 rods as well.
I am currently looking at what pistons will fit, the spool rods are 5.5mm longer than the G150 rods, so the compression height needs to be in the order of 31-32mm, the best fit so far are Honda pistons i think at 30mm CP, so I might need a turbo !!!

Maybe I should just buy a twin cam and gearbox and be done with it

Cheers
Rob

Anyone got leads on gasket sets VRS and full for G161S (please note S not Z).

Part number and website would be helpful.

Cheers
Rob

Not quite, g161z has its own bore and stroke, g180z has a larger bore and shares the stroke with the g200z which has a larger bore again. The g161z and g180z share the same head and the g180z and g200z share the block (which is 3mm taller btw).

Rob,

Possible source of gaskets is from the US.
I bought kits from there on eBay. These were for the G180. My GT G161s leaks like a sieve.
I've only used the gaskets for the timing inspection cover at front, the long tappett cover and the 'o'
ring which is on the cam carrier. I don't know if the headgasket is same.
There are two types of sumps on the 180 in the Chevy Luv. The series 1 has the 2 piece, the same as the
G150 and G160/61, and the rest have a sump the same as G161/180/200z engines. Series 1 to 4 have a
similar top end [2 timing chains, short double row to layshaft, long double row to camshaft]. A bit like a
Mitsy engine. Series 5 to 12 [my parts books only cover up to 12], are same as the z series engines. Single
chain, less guides and chain dampers.
The US have more advanced polution laws than we have in these engines. The tappett cover on mine has
a 1 piece separater baffle fitted as over there it is 2 piece. It not being a big problem, as in this case if you
ever needed 1, it would not be hard to make. The previous owner/owners of my car had discarded it. In the future
I'll have to make 1.
Things to look for. eBay Chevy Luv. Head gasket in kit same as G150/60/61. If kit is same as z engines with extra
loop at front for timing cover. Not it.
Sump gasket is "goo" down sides. 2 semicircular seals for front and back too seal off front and rear main caps.
Rear main seal is 2 piece whick seal. z engines 1 piece full circle [conventional].
Be sure to enlarge photo of kit for sale. Sometimes it is a bit deceiving if you don't.
Vantage Imports often have gaskets for sale. Another I think is MIKE1091. One of these or both I've bought
parts from. Engine mounts,gaskets etc.
Hall gaskets is a manufacturer of kits. Because of age,[I believe the company is no longer], the gaskets are very brittle.
If you get some, treat them with care, buy some sheet gasket material and copy and cut your own.I've had to do
this and made extras.

I hope this wil asist you and any other Bellett owners with this engine.

Dave.

RobSA,

ebay has listings of manuals in 'chevy luv'. also waterpump if you need one.
Series 1 or series 2 are the ones . Don't go for series 5 above. These are for 'z' engines.
There are also Chiltons and Haynes manuals listed. Although for LUV, will cover both engines.
I bought a Haynes and a General Motors manual, photocopied the sections required and put them
into sheet protectors in a hard backed 3 ring binder. Didn't need the rest.

Geoff, Isabell Grand Tourer,
Have been pm' ing you for sizes on filter in 'Mildred'. No replies. Have local filter bloke who may be able to assist.
Require inside and out, depth and if possible the inside measurement of filter housing.

Dave.

RobSA,
Most of the pumps are up around that price. Have only seen 1 less by approx. $20.00. Keep an eye open for others. You may get lucky. Watch the American $. The rate is close.
Dave.
