water pumps are the bain of our existence down here...
after going through a few used ones, the only option has been for the guys has been to get them re-kitted.
i've been lucky enough to not have not had to do this... yet... (i bet i've just jinxed myself...), so i don't know who is doing them, or how much they are costing.

but basicly, to answer your question... it's a re-kit job.

Have found a source for new water pumps.

Stanmore Auto Spares

I believe he has access to 8 as of 22 May 2009.

I found him through Trademe and paid NZ$83 incl shipping from Christchurch to Bay of Islands NZ.

I'm expecting to receive my pump in the next week.

I am not 100% sure but I think there are two different water pumps for the 1500 sedan motor. I can't remember specifics but I think that I tryed to fit a water pump from one of my spare three bearing motors and it would not fit on my later 5 bearing motor. From memory it bolted up alright but the impeller fowled on the backing plate.

Can any one else back this up??

Water pump arrived today. It's a new pump made by GMB in Japan www.gmb.jp . Part number GWIS-13a stamped with number 7y05.

Really pleased I could get a new one and will get it fitted this weekend.

Next job is to recondition the brake cylinders......

Hi I'd like to jump on here with some questions about the cooling system, ( before I BREAK something) the area of concern is the fittings on water pump that delivers water to the heater core, they are shot and in need of replacing, the entire system is apart and being cleaned.
Is there anything in particular we should look for?
Can the fittings be removed without cracking the water pump housing?
Can I remove and plug these connections without the engine overheating? (Hot & Humid here)
We'd appreciate any advice and comments from the crowd .... 8-)

Hello Mark & jannine,
my advice here is - be vewy vewy careful. I once destroyed a perfectly good pump trying to remove a plug, and the car was only 12 years old! The fittings have a habit of welding themselves in, chemically I guess. Base model cars were sold here without heaters, so no probs with closing them off. Simplest thing if you have fittings & don't want a heater is to run a short hose from one to the other, I've done this when a heater core corroded out. In my experience, Belletts seldom run hot, unless the radiator is blocked, even in western Sydney's high 30's (high 90's F) & 90%+ humidity summers. (Ooooh, glad I don't still live there!)

Matt,Thanks man .. yeah careful is the word, I had a feeling that those fittings would be a bugger to remove,the lower one is f'd up and we're really going to have trouble getting a hose on it,but we will work it out ... glad to know you can plug them without overheating.
We are on the Gulf of Mexico side of Florida and we do get seabreezes just not enough sometimes! it's a holiday weekend here in the states so we have three whole days off,cool !

HI MARK I DID GET A WATER PUMP FROM NZ AS TOLD BY CHILLI BIN (THANKS) i got it of stanmore autos it was an easy fit went straight on cosy me $90 aus delivered you could email them on stanmoreroadautos@xtra.co.nz really quick service all the best your car is starting to shape well keep us all posted kind regards dave

regarding the question from 65bellett

There is no difference between 65 and 67 (3 bearing main and 5 bearing main) model water pumps but the backing plate which is removable is different so sometimes you need to fit the old plate to your new pump. May also have to plug an extra hole up as well. Been a while since i have done this!
I know it is not the best feeling bolting on a rusty old backing plate but it works fine.

Thank's Guys, when the car was running it seems that the water pump was working,but from all the posts in here it's just a matter of time before I'll have to source one .... and I know I'm reaching with this question but does the G130 motor share common components with the G150? From what I can gather on the entries here with the brochures and tech data (Thanks to all) other than the bore and stroke of the two engines (G130/G150)is it a chance that they may be similar.... ??
any thoughts about that :?:

I recently lost a bid on a service manual for the Bellett/Wasp that covers the 1300 and 1500 motor so that pretty much answered my question about the motors being similar! sorry about the dumb question guys I'm sure I'll have more of them....bear with me... :roll:

Don't worry, in the Bellett world there is no such thing as a dumb question because what your car is fitted with may have only been used for 15 minutes in the production run.

We are rapidly (well, some people have already worked this out) finding that no two cars are the same even if they sat on the production line together!

Hi people,

I can confirm for PR10 Mark that the PR10, PR20, PR30 and PR40 all shared the same water pump (unsure about the backing plate thingo Oz_toffa Chris mentioned) - the Bellett/Wasp engine manual indicates they are the same and the PR Part List guide shows no differences between 1300 and 1500.

What I need to know fairly quickly is, does anybody know if the 1500 sedan water pump is the same as the 1600 GT water pump?

Hi Dave,
OHV 1500 and 1600 engines share the same pumps ( 2 types of pumps depending on year the engine is build in)
If you mean a SOHC 1600 GT engine; they have another pump.
(DOHC; I don't know).

if your asking about the "standard" GT 1600 alloy head pushrod engine i am quite sure it is the same as the 1500. and also the same as the 1600 in the 69 sedan with the square inlet manifold and the early Florian 1600.

Gents,
The best bit of advice I received when I had my new first Bellett sedan a 19691/2 model ,was to ensure NEVER to over tighten the fan belt, a lot of blown WP were caused by the simple process of over tightening the fan belt.

I have since followed that advice in the many cars have owned over the years and never experienced another problem, in fact I keep mine loose enough to just avoid slippage.

I will say I have new spare JUST CASE!!
