Cheers, Matt.

Rootes put a small block Ford V8 into the Sunbeam Alpine sports car and called it the Tiger. (The Alpine was actually built on the floorpan of a Hillman Husky, which was a short wheelbase station wagon based on the Minx - here is a Husky that has had a Ford 302 installed).

The first Tiger prototype they built had the motor set too far forward and while quick, threatened to shorten the life of anyone brave enough to drive it seriously. Carroll Shelby built the next prototype, cutting into the firewall to get the motor set back far enough. It worked, but the steering had to be changed and it was never a wonderful handler.

Cheers, Vic
