Former Toyota factory race driver, Peter Williamson, passed away today aged 78.
He was made famous when at Bathurst in 1979 he was the first driver, in the world, to have live footage beamed from a race car to the live TV audience via a new innovation called 'racecam'.
Willo's career earlier was heavily Bellett inspired when he was 1 of the 3 dealers who received a factory built race Bellett from Isuzu, free of charge. He had great success with it, and as they say, the rest is history.
RIP.

I remember watching that view down the mountain - I think my mouth was agape the whole time (I was all of 11)

Thanks Brett.

Condolences to his family and friends.

I'm sorry to hear that too. I loved watching him in the Celica, and remember the tacho being between 6 and 8000 revs all day. But I was a bit more than 11 at the time! I didn't know about the Bellett though, thanks Brett.
The 2 litre twin cam went the distance, so it was a logical choice to fit to Tracy's first car, a Fiat 1800 6, when its motor wore out.

A good bloke who brought excitement to many while doing what he loved.
Matt.

One of the funniest memories I have of Peter Williamson is when he took to the boot of the Celica with an axe because they could not get to the fuel filler to open, at Bathurst.
I also met Peter and spoke to him in depth when I had my GT on show at the Sydney round of the V8's about 4 years ago, as much as some would not agree, I thought he was alright the way he spoke to his fans at meetings.
