maybe slide the running gear into a sedan for now? decide if your going to fix it later...
Glad your ok though, gutted the gt is stuffed.

don't part it, it looks worse than it is. Have a look at ol yella. Its not a write off just easier for shannons to write it off as for them to find bits to do it to insurance standard is too hard. who cares if it supports a sedan rear bumper until a gt bumper shows up. I am not in the market for another gt but if you are going to wreck it I would buy it complete just to put it back on the road. :twisted:

It'd be nice to think it would stay in one piece (well, most of it) and get back on the road...just not sure I'm the man for the job. Even still, if anyone has a rear clip please let me know, I'm getting a quote for repair regardless, just so I know.

:cry: Very sad to hear of this Duane, but glad you are ok, thats the main thing. The result may have been much worse, that looks like a really hard hit.
People need to watch.....where.....they're.....going!! (Get their hand off it.)

I'm with Greg, everything else is still good, so it would be good to save it if possible. If you dont want to, then I'm sure there would be buyers about. The payout plus what you get for the wreck may buy you some other rare beast as compensation. I know you are a rare fan.
You would probably find a donor locally, but if not I have a sacrificial sedan here.

Dont rush your decision, this is so disheartening, but time helps perspective.

So, So sorry to see this post....I was loving your updates on the car. Glad you are OK though.

The GT can be fixed but would take a good panel shop if you can find one, that will do the things the right way. As others have said, sedan parts will work just fine.
Pretty sure i will have a spare rear bumper bar if you need one also.

Mate, first and foremost, you're ok. Bit bashed about but God, it could have been so much worse. That's gotta be a sign that it's not as bad as it looks.

As Greg said, anything is fixable. Any insurance company has to source parts and then guarantee repairs...... There's the problem right there. Where do they source a GT quarter and the rest, and how can they guarantee cut and shut panels if your GT quarter is grafted onto a sedan quarter? Having said that, once you're paid out, the money would fix it and a good panelshop could do the repairs properly.
That looks bad, but honestly once all the bent stuff is removed, it wouldn't be so bad. It'd be a big job, granted, and if it was a sedan, it'd be far easier to graft it all into a new shell, but dude...... It's a GT, and a bloody nice one at that.

Please don't part it out or wreck it. As said, if it's too big a job, pass it on to someone in the family who wants a project. It's too nice a car and has great history, so it simply can't be lost because some twit wasn't watching where he was going in his normal, throw away POS. The fate of a classic car shouldn't be determined by situations like that.

Geez I would be pissed off also, really you were in the right place going home, but at the wrong time.
THANKFULLY you are OK, these little cars are tough little Guys aren't they, had you been in one of the later cars even with the safety gear in them, I think you personally would have been worse off.
Hang in there don't make any rush decisions just yet, you could be suffering shock also.
A mate of mine many years ago, had a really serious accident in a GT, went home and cut it up with an angle grinder, a result of shock, he regretted it later. At least the spares have been used by another Club member.

Think it out very carefully.

Hi Duane, I also am sorry to see your car looking like this, but as said at least you are still around and the car can be saved, did I not see that Dick had new rear panels also rear quarter panel? Would be expensive, but the car would be worth it.

a session on a panel shops chassis rack will pull most of that back to where it ought to be and will start to look a lot better.

that alone won't fix it of course but will make the rest of the repair much simpler.

Repairable for sure but absolutely heart wrenching all the same.

Don't part it out mate!
Even if you decide to sell it, sell it whole (still worth good $ as is) as it is a complete car, otherwise it may never see the road again......

Thanks guys, really appreciate all your best wishes, support and advice! Certainly won't rush into anything rash, it took me three years to land this car so it would be nice (and feasible) to see it make a comeback. My thinking currently is that I'm not the person for the job, as I've already got 2 projects waiting, one of them's already a rear-ender too! I'll let it sit for a few weeks as I've got a lot on around the house at the moment and not much time to weigh it all up, I may have a change of heart.
