I has been ages but now I have the urge to get my car back on the road for the Summer Cruising Season.

The motor had blown the Head Gasket which started the pull down.

Got the motor machined, balanced, ported, polished.

It really does look like the Twin Cam shares the bottom end with the G180ss SOHC motor
Same water pump anyway

They are the same block. The twin cam has 3 cams as the cam in the block still remains and a welch plug covers the dizzy hole as well as driving the oil pump.

Yeah it was a bit uncomfortable with the bonnet sitting up a foot at 80 mph - bonnet latch and front sway bar fitted.

Davo not sure depends on how much you can pick up the twin cam plus 5 speed - Machining cost 2 k gaskets were expensive $300 - 400 but you need them. I have to say that the 5 speed is great makes cruising the highway fun.

I've wondered if you can bolt the head onto the g161 not sure about valve clearance

No twin can I've ever seen has a welch plug in the dis hole.....
They either have an oil breather / separator to vent the crankcase on early ones or a hose from the back of the head to the a fitting in the hole for breather / head oil drain.
I'd seriously be looking into that as too much crankcase pressure will cause blown gaskets.

On My Motor which is the g180w Blue Top (rocker cover being painted hence the Green Top )

it is different to the early ones with the breather box in the distributor hole

Orph is correct as mine had the welch plug in the distributor hole, it has a pvc valve at the back of the head which originally went to the plenum in the fuel injection and also had one in the front of the head which T'd into the air cleaner tube

I have chosen to knock out the plug and fit the breather box

At the front right there is a small tube in the sump that is the oil return point

I notice the starter motor is on the passenger side like on the Bellett
Does this twin cam come from a JDM ZZR Gemini?
Would the 5 speed that came with this motor bolt direct to the G150/160/161 Bellett engines? And what modifications if any are required

They do breath heavy I found with mine if you give a hard time they will leak oil around the filler cap I run from the mushroom box you mention into a catch can that can run back into the mushroom and back down the old dizzy hole. I used a bellett oe one upside down if you need a pick. If you end up with a oil leak after a good work out.
James a g161 block will work but you will have to use a 1800 head or a 2 litre with a air pump :evil:

yes its out of a ZZR Gemini.

The 5 Speed can bolt up to a bellett motor, same bolt pattern same overall length use your original prop shaft.

The differences are that this box has the fine 24 spline input shaft with a 17 mm Outer Diameter spigot brg 40 mm outer 17 mm inner 6203 or similar. The clutch is a 215 mm diam. so I am assuming you could get the bellett flywheel redrilled. The original Gemini had the clutch fork pivoting from the other side (passenger) I changed mine to pivot as per normal bellett and actuated by the std. pushrod system. The std Bellett spigot brg carrier wont slide on the larger diam shaft so I had this machined out and it works fine. The other difference is the rear gearbox mount doesn't line up in the same position its 80 mm further back, some weld an extention on the rear gearbox mount but I wanted to keep it std and followed something that Orph had mentioned I built 2 x 6 mm thick cantilever plates that had 3 sets of holes 80 mm apart the front 2 bolted up in the normal position and the gearbox mount bolted the the second and third row.

I am wondering whether anyone converted to a hydraulic clutch and ran the line over the gearbox in the tunnel to the Gemini Slave cylinder? rather than converting to the Bellett Push-rod mechanical clutch set-up?

Either way I am struggling with the idea of Non-purist modifications (within limits anyway).
I know the 5 speed is great for the highway but there isn't many here in Tas compared to mainland.

The 2.0 in my Wasp came out of a Piazza. It has the pressed in fitting in the dis hole and a hose from the back of the head fitted between them. I'm told its does oil drain and breather duty. It also has the PVC at the back of the head and another tube breather at the front of the inlet cam (from memory..... car isn't with me atm and won't be til next March).
Gav's 2.0 EFI twin cam GT has a 5 speed behind it with a hydraulic clutch. Glenn set it up probably 25 years ago and is still fine.
5 speed twin cam box is the same ratios as a 4 speed GT just with an 0.85:1 overdrive 5th, so if you're not doing Hume Hwy miles, don't bother.
And they weigh more too...... Hence why the one in my race car is coming out.

Many years back when I fitted a 2L efi DOHC to a GT, I converted the clutch to hydraulic also. (RH side) (5 spd Rodeo box used)
From distant memory I used a different throw-out lever. And a Toyota hydraulic clutch master and slave cylinder.
I think there is ahole in rh side of the g'box and it just entailed moving the little ball pivot point to other side. No drilling needed as I recall. Unsure if genuine DOHC box is that simple though. But being hydraulic, the line can be routed to other side.

Mine does 145mph down the straight at PI with an 0.85:1 5th at 5800rpm on 195/50x15 tyres, so it's not much of a gain anyway, especially on the road. Only gets to 5800 because it's pushing hard to build more revs at that speed thru that ratio, and then u run out of road anyway.
5th drop it from about 3400 to 2900 or so at 60mph on the highway, or something like that.

Mine pulls 100mph down back straight at Simmons Plains and starts to get real Light without any aero work.....

120mph is enough for me..... floating down the road....
