She is now 'engineered' for local rules.. All i need now is a roadworthy Cert. I have a couple of things to do for that yet. I was hoping to have all done by end of today, ie on Club Reg but things slipped a bit with Eng and no point rushing now. I found some holes in the rear muffler so rather than hope it slipped through, (they are pretty tough on them now) i pulled the whole system off to check and repair it. Lucky i did as said muffler apprently has been repaired before (badly) It appears to have the original type of centre muffler and possibly the 2nd one too.

Good one Glenn, did you have to fit mirrors to both sides? and besides seat belts? how did you go with tail and front parking lights? what else?

Just the RH mirror. He was concerned about rear tyre to guard clearance until I convinced him that it IRS.

Re: Sport" Bellett sedan PICTURES
Had RWC inspection booked for today but had to cancel. Last minute checks.... The indicators decided to blink no more. Or only sometimes. PLus, one headlight no longer worked! A new H1 bulb fixed that problem. The flasher unit appeared to be marginal so looked for another. There appears to be none like this one, new. It's quite a large square device with 3 pins but the active pins are the wide spaced ones. I found a Late model ford flasher unit in the junk box and had to make an adapter cable for it. Too late though for the RWC.

Hopefully this time next week it will 'sport' some shiny new club permit plates. Then I need an outing or two to go on as it's an unproven driver right now.

Re: Sport" Bellett sedan PICTURES
now have an unregistered permit...... took her for a 5km test drive down the local road. Brakes are how i remember them...lots of pressure needed ! A booster might be next. It drove 'ok' (pretty firm ride ) but there must be a loose baffle in the rear muffler from the noise it makes at certain rpm, so i guess a new one is in order.
Anybody found a similar one in two out type that fits a GT?
Steering is a little 'loose' so i need to fit Chris's new rack rubbers which i have already. Might as well do it before the RWC just to be sure.
Seems to go alright though. An initial bit of farting around and roughness was fixed with new plugs.

Good on you Glenn, it must feel GREAT to be now driving the Sport!!
I have no doubt it wil get some weird looks on the road from those that know Bellett's, same shape as the sedan, but with 2 doors!!!

Re: Sport" Bellett sedan PICTURES
I will be even happier when it has rego plates!!
Fitted the rack rubber today. Not a job I enjoyed though. Difficult getting old one out as it seemed to be stuck to the clamps. Slipping in new one after that was easy though.
Lot's of jobs done now on this car. Will be glad when I can actually go on a run with others in it.

Re: Sport" Bellett sedan PICTURES
It is a bugger of a job Glenn. I had new ones fitted to my sedan, got sick of trying to do it myself, so I had my mechanic do it for me, he complained about the location also.
They certainly make a difference.

It's certainly no fun. I guess if all goes to plan, ie. they remove easily, then it's no too bad but things never seem to be like that! Will go for a drive tonight and see how she feels now.

Good to hear you have been out on the road, Glenn!
its a great feeling to get a project on the road even if you still have other jobs to do.
glad you finally managed to get some new rubber in the steering rack. i know duane felt a lot happier with reduced steering freeplay
keep those photos coming in
thanks

Re: Sport" Bellett sedan PICTURES
I took it for another run today with the new rubber in. Much better.
theres a bit of a noise in the steering too, at top of the column when turning from centre. I am unsure what the noise is but suspect it might have a dodgy bearing at the top? Is there a bearing in there? Type ?
There's a bit of a leak of oil from the head gasket too..... i don't need this ! On rh side of engine in the centre. I think there is an O-ring in that area ? Maybe a re-tension of the head might help for now but i have no idea on these SOHC engines what to do !
She seems to have fairly good power. Driveline seems quiet enough. Starts easier and idles nicer with the new plugs after a few seconds of choke only. Speedo works, ODO does not. Petrol gauge not working either....... little niggles basically.

Re: Sport" Bellett sedan PICTURES
Hi Glenn,
Not 100% sure, but I think you will find it has a nylon bush in top of steering shaft, mine also has oil leak same place, suspect that it has o ring same as g161 and g150 engine, that feeds the cam shaft.
makes a mess, bur realy doesn't use a lot of oil, mine used less than .5 lt on the trip to nats and return.
Cheers Geoff

Hi Geoff, theres a small pool of oil there after only about 10km of driving. Not enough to run all the way down the engine though. I have a spare head gasket for it so might fix it later.
Ok on the bearing. Mine is a dark grey colour just at the top of the shaft. Some little bits of it floating in the housing as the blinker cancel mechanism was rubbing on it. I can move the shaft up and downa a little and there is a noise as i turn the wheel also, mostly about centre i think. Another thiung to look closer at later.
do you have the 'standard' mufflers on yours or aftermarket? Seems the rear one has loose baffles inside as best as i can tell. Hard to pick exaclty.

Re: Sport" Bellett sedan PICTURES
Glen, I had a similar experience with a noise when steering after I had replaced the rack rubbers. Turned out the end of the steering shaft was rubbing on the body in the engine bay. Readjusted the rack a few mill. And solved the noise problem. May be worth checking.
