Peter, all the pistons on ebay seem to be dished type, except this one which is a flat top, so might do the job. But i am unsure if this fits the SOHC engines by the description. Although "series 1 -4" would seem right.

"110(1.8 Liter) GMC LUV Engine Piston Set 1972-1975" Brand New!
For 1972-1975 1 Thru 4 Series
2 Sizes available STD, 020 Over

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/110718451910 ... l2649#shId

LATER UPDATED:-the pistons shown in the picture: says 3.3871" bore which is 86.03mm. Too big for a 84mm bore.

I don't think 84mm will be a problem as the isuzu blocks are pretty thick I now 1800 twin cams go out to 2 litre size ok and the 1800 single cam is the same block so should be ok and just think that extra swept volume will only help in getting the comp up oh and on the point of blowing the engine and club rego I don't think you will have a problem look at all the mg's out there and there on read plates I know as I have dyno tuned a heap of them regards Peter.

86.03 equates to ~1906cc from the 84 x 82 SOHC 1800 engine.

The above pistons are flat top on ebay but no rings with them. Is it feasible to get rings for that size

Is it safe in all cases to punch them this far or is sonic testing first needed.

I found these pistons, can anybody comment on them please?

They are supposed to be for the SOHC 1800cc engine, Series 1 - 4 Chevvy LUV in USA.

They are domed on top. >> updated:- Must be my eyes, vendor says they are flat tops.

Not 'shiny' looking either like others on eBay.

I now have this info on the pistons, (appears to be +0.5mm or 20thou over)

P405 X .50mm or .020 in
Standard bore: 3.3071 or 84.0mm
Compression distance: 1.445
Ring pack: [email protected] [email protected]
Head type: Flat top
Pin diameter: .8664
For 1972-75 engines (1thru 4 series)

can anybody cross ref this to a SOHC engine or Gemini/Rodeo to see if Ok for SOHC 1800 ?

Please.

I took a plunge here.

Bought Luv series '72 - 75, flat top piston set. +30thou. OK, not 'right' pistons, but better than dished ones.

Rings and full gasket set. Hopefully right one see below, appreciate any feedback !

Just need a car to go with them !

Hi Glenn,
The pic's Pombellett shows us are pistons for a 1600 (82 mm pistons) indeed, I also do have the 84 mm pistons. They look just the same with he little step on top of the piston too. This offcourse will give a better compr ratio.
The original sohc pistons had the cam on the piston not only for higher compression, but also for the flow in the chamber.

I'd say; now it is getting time to go out and buy an 1800 sohc car. With a bit of luck it has a good engine with no work at all !

groejes Dick

Thanks for info, Dick.
I was going to buy a car that had an engine in 'down' condition hence the parts but its now been withdrawn from sale. Of course, i would prefer a car with a good engine though, but need to find one.
