Nope, I have managed to keep him for now. Would rather sell other cars and keep the bellett, will wait and see what happens though. He has been hiding in the garage for over two months now! I think I will give him a wash and go for a spin this weekend :)

Brilliant, glad to hear it's still in the family.
I'd go for a drive, but I still can't get the alternator to charge ... result is a flat battery now.

Hey guys,

I failed a wof on a few small things, and in my travels to fix them, Barney found himself at the panel beaters. I was very excited when I saw the car he would be sharing the workshop with!!!

Its not every day you get a Hino Contessa and an Isuzu Bellett together, both cars are very thin on the ground over here

This guy owns two of them!!! Very pleased I got to look one over. Cool cars, it's a shame they didn't keep going.

New front tyres, a small rust repair, steering rack boot and an inner rack end and Barney is all warranted again :)

Do you have a part number and manufacturer for the steering rack boot?

do u mean the concertina(sp?) type that always splits in the folds?
if so, EF-EL Falcon ones fit nicely with a bit of a trim.

No part number sorry. It was just a Repco universal one, cut to suit, I believe it even came with cable ties.

They used to have them on Kustoms.

Anyone able to tell me how to remove the horn or steering wheel? Horn is not working, think it is a bad connection on the button.

Hi Barney
I have not had to remove a sedan one, but I think the red button has to be removed and there is three screws behind it ??? If the ring needs to be removed ? Below the ring is a 21 mm nut loosen the nut flush with the shaft leaving the nut on the saft get a drift and someone to give it a light hit while pulling back on the steering wheel.
A couple of things to check first is earth the S wire on the relay {green wire red trace i think} this will confirm the problem is where you think it is. Also check the trace wire near the rack apinion where the shaft meets the rack there is a rubber bush a wire should connect 2 bolts together giving the sreering shaft an earth.

Might be the brass ring on the back of the steering wheel where the roller for the earth is , just had same problem with our sedan , remove indicator switch covers 4 screws & clean brass ring with emery cloth or s/paper this solved our problem

Hi Barney,
If the above doesn't find the fault, you can check the relay by removing the wire from the 'S' (Switch) pole and touching a neg wire to it . Should click or horns sound. (I had a failed relay recently.)
To remove the hornring, wind out the 3 little grub screws in the side of the steering wheel centre untill it falls out. The gap between the contacts is ajustable by turning the plastic nuts tighter or looser. I have had to take them right off & clean the contact ring faces with sandpaper. I have found many brass contacts that are tarnished. This oxide doesn't conduct well. It is my first thing to do if something doesn't work & the fuse isn't blown. The fuse contacts are a prime example. SHINE 'EM UP!

Long time no update!

Have managed to get the horn working 99% of the time, the first toot sometimes takes two presses of the horn but after that it works fine.

Have cut down a chevy luv engine mount to replace the worn drivers side one, sits ~8mm higher but otherwise works well.

Got an old roof rack to put on but im not quite sold on the look and it whistles like crazy when driving so have removed it for now.

Went for a warrant inspection this morning and have failed on a front brake imbalance and he seemed to think the remote master was not working so might take that out altogether rather than try and track down the replacement parts.
