Kind and sympathetic words Davo.....but I can handle it. I've followed England from the days when an under 12 schoolboy team could have beaten them.
All credit to the Aussie team though, they've bounced back brilliantly, and are playing a quality brand of cricket, they look unstoppable.......................at the moment!! It just adds to the spice for when we meet again in the next Ashes.

As for the 'dress code' for the next race Glen, yes Goodwood likes to keep its spectators as smart as the cars it invites....a bit of nonsense I know, but in a way it works as it makes the overall feel of the event different from your standard club race, and consequently gets bigger crowds and better grids.

For instance the two Gerry Marshall Trophy races for late 70's early 80's touring cars is going to be worth the ticket price on its own....Goodwood is insisting that all the cars are un-silenced and in their original livery...I've heard that there's Rover SDIs, Capris and Dolly Sprints being dragged from the back of workshops as we speak!
Might get a better idea of what's showing up at the test at the end of Feb.

Is the biggest historic race meeting in the southern hemisphere, and rumour says it's not far behind Goodwood now too.
Any genuine enthusiast in Australia of anything old car related who hasn't been to it really hasn't lived and don't know what they're missing, so it's a must at least once in your life.
Look for the arrival of a certain Bellett there this year too....

That's the thing it has over Goodwood tho.
I've heard stories of people being refused entry to areas there because they're not dressed in the correct period attire.... Whereas PI is a case if go anywhere and look at everything.

It's not quite as Draconian as that. The inner paddock prefers you to be smart, not necessarily in period, and obviously you need a paddock pass, this reduces the risk of overcrowding. Important when cars are going to and coming back from races, being bump started etc.

Have a look at this.....this is driving through the paddock to the collecting area for qualifying.

It shows pretty well the numbers and how people are dressed.

got a bit of a soft spot for those Cortinas as I had one a long time ago. Not the Lotus version though.

A guy where i worked once at that time, had one with a V6 in it, factory job. Private import. Can't be sure exact same body shape now but i think so.

Davo, I'm old and smelly enough to know that the dreaded wait in the collection area, after you've been called up is the worst bit of racing....so I'm happy to take my time getting there.

Besides the Bellett is still quite quiet, and with all the other cars warming up, I don't think they can hear me anyway.

By the way, over Christmas I did a photo shoot for a magazine I think called Retro Car. Whether anything will come from it, I don't know. Does it come out Down Under?

Retro Car is a fantastic magazine, a bit like Nostalgic Hero or our Fast Fours mag but a UK version. Mostly small cars like Escorts, Cortinas, Toyotas, Datsuns or Morries
Rolie would be a prime candidate for a magazine like that. I've never seen a Bellett in it EVER

We do get it here but you have to hunt around for it as not too many newsagencies will stock it due to limited demand or interest and as such when they do have it on the shelf it's twice the price of our typical bogan/redneck car magazines.
I used to grab a copy from time to time but haven't seen it for a while at my local newsagent.
I'd definitely be chasing down a copy if Rolie gets a spread in it

Hi Pom. I wouldn't worry about hitting the corty with the door won't hurt roles . I rember being with Greg when he picked roles up in the paddoc . He was tough snakes and every thing . It's grate watching all your stories .gricey

As stated elsewhere, as happy to report that the Reynolds / Ferguson car has now been confirmed into the display in the expo area of this year's PI Classic.
Only 20 cars got the nod this year, as opposed to 60 or more in the past, so is great to be included.
Looking forward to the whole event as always too.

Well done Brett, it'll be good fun being right in the thick of it, in such a top end event....

We tested on Monday, to see how my new little 13'' wheels behaved combined with the later (non column change!!) gearbox.

Most people familiar with car thought it looked better on the 13s. I'm not so fussed, but what I can tell you is that it went a lot better.
I've now got to learn to push harder, as the point at which it starts to slide is quite a bit further round the speedometer.
In the end we made significant improvements in the times, and I reckon we could be 2 seconds under last years pace, at the meeting end of March.

Quick though, the ex Gordon Spice Capri was putting in 1.29s....that's up with some of the quickest kit we get to see at Goodwood.
