hey guys,

Hey this forum thingy really works!

PR91, redback and Barney , thanks for replying. Will try to get in touch with Nigel to see how the conversion went. I'm not really very good with computers but will do my best to get some pictures up as soon as I can. Are your cars standard power or have you tweeked them a bit ?

Soon Jeff (scotland).

Jeff.
Nigel's car is standard. last i heard, it was up for a full resto first.

our cars have a range of powerplants.
standard, lightly tweaked original, super hot original, isuzu/holden gemini Gseries (like my race car), isuzu twin cam, u name it....
has been the odd mazda rotary one as well....

Hey Jeff,
I have just done a rebuild (30thou oversized rings, pistons etc) on my engine and whacked a bigger carby on it - probably a little better than standard (I hope).

Cheers,
Neil

What part of Scotland are you from?
My folks are from Portabello.

Welcome to the forum Jeff.

Like your idea of the Ford engine, there is a lot of good stuff available for them in your neck of the woods (well England really). Lot of people put them or the Ford equivalent into Clubmans so belhousings and other such things are available as well. (Plus the turbo kits you mention and better fuel injection, cams, etc).

Cheers
Rob

Welcome to the forum Jeff

You'll find lots and lots of useful Bellett stuff here.

Good luck with your transplant and the brakes.

I'm currently rebuilding my second Bellett, it will be a bit wilder than my first one which looks standard but has a 34 DMS weber carb and mild street cam, the combination of which really improves them. You'll find the standard pushrod motor with the 5 main bearings (earlier ones had 3) almost indestructible and I've grown up in a family that had four teenage boys learning to drive in them (and give them a test out too). Others will have better advice but we thrashed an early model until it succumbed to the tin worm with 300 000 miles on it and never ever had a driveshaft , gearbox or diff problem. But we weren't putting MX 5 power through it.

good luck, keep us all posted.
