Meet the new member of the family. OMEGA is her name. Isn't she gorgeous I believe the sight of her will stimulate some more heated aussie debate. Main thing is I'm over the moon about her

And we sold the old '86 Magna. Didn't expect to get $600 for it, but the guy was pleasantly surprised when he test drove it. Alot of new bits, engine included, but a whopping 570,000 kms on the dial.

congrats! always nice to get a newer car! I suppose its okay for a holden!

believe me, anything is good after a Magna. Even a F____.

enjoy it, as its so much fun in a new set of wheels

Ah, but you say, he had a Magna & a Camry recently. Well, yeah, one thing about Aus cars, they're cheap once they've got a couple of years up.

Now, those who like to beat-up on Magnas, notice he said 570,000k's? Not too shabby!
Nice if the Sube ever gets that far - dragged itself to 300,000 with only one donk rebuild. New motor: O.K.,.... so far.

I suppose there's the cars we want - Isuzus, and those we need - daily drivers.
Probably a good choice mate, roomy, not too exxy, and parts available EVERYWHERE!

Too right Matt. It's a huge step up for our daily / family cruise. And more luxury than we ever imagined. But I miss the raw little beastie so much since it hasn't been going for a few months, and SOOO looking forward to getting it back on the tarmac.

As for the Isuzu dream.......importing a GTR (albeit a replica) one day with part of the retirement fund !! Possibly by then they will be worth a mint and even fewer around. Dream on !!

For all the trash-talking between the Ford and Holden lovers, really they both have built some sensational cars over the years.... and both built some bombs.

As a long-time Holden enthusiast (they are the reason I ended up being an Isuzu enthusiast; Gemini to Isuzu Bellett!), I can't really put my hand on my heart and tell you all that Holdens are great, because the early Camira, the Apollo, the Nova... they just aren't. Sure, the Apollo and Nova were probably super-reliable, but that's because they were Toyotas.

Same goes for Ford fans. I know a few of you enjoy your Tickford-based AU Falcons and that's great. but there's a reason why the base AU Forte was updated with a new front within a year or so of coming out... it was fugly! Plus most Ford fans really wouldn't care much for a Telstar... surely?

I guess the problem I have with both of them is that Aussie cars probably more than any others (oh, except maybe Yank cars) suffer from Monday and Friday cars; ones that just aren't put together right and just fail all the time!

Fortunately my VY SS is definitely a Tues to Thurday car... it hasn't let me down in 99,572 ks and now that Antus has tuned it, goes faster than it has ever done! I haven't busted a diff or a uni like one Ford fan (not you Brett) said I would and they're not making any noise. And while I'm no burnout king, its got power and I like to use it.

Hopefully Bruno's Omega can give him the 500,000ks++ of good service the Magna did; the engines now more than ever are super-reliable with little need to open them up; the suspension will probably need doing every 100,000ks or so (they are HEAVY after all) and if mine's anything to go by, the aircon might meet an unexpected and horrible death, but it shouldn't leave you on the side of the road stranded AND.... MOST IMPORTANTLY, if something large and heavy comes your way and wipes you out (say perhaps the ghost of John Candy), with airbags and blah blah, you should be pretty safe.

Good buy there Bruno! Now for some bloody mags! You look like you're driving a D-car!

Also, I'm going to call you Omega Man from now on.

thats a very good summing up of all things 4 wheeled there, Dave. and a bit of a Rant. we have missed them

amazing that you got 500,000 from a Magna engine. They were very prone to early timing chain failure often caused by a 15min manual adjustment to the chain tensioner not being done.

Bellett engines are as strong as.
Case in mention was RobSA GT sedan that made it all the way Coona and halfway home before oil usage, radiator repair that wasnt!!, stopped to check the broken windscreen and didnt check the water (dooh!) finally blew the head gasket.
i did suggest that just re-tensioning the head once it got home may even get it running again as the cast head is very forgiving.
which is also why i cant understand the damage to the bottom end of my new Auto. It just doesnt happen to Bellett engines with normal use and some proper care. but we also know that some owners are not the most diligent in looking after the everyday needs of the internal combustion engine. Some cant even pee straight into a toilet bowl...

But i assure you that once the machining is done and the parts are collected, she will be once again running like a Bellett should and will give me many years of faithful service once again.
