Importing cars is no real problem, I have just imported one from NZ. You will have to get permission to import from Canberra, and all Belletts qualify, then I went on web and found a importer ( Dave from SA) will point you in right direction, pay for it and sit back and wait. When it gets here have it complied by inspector for adr rules and from there on rego and away you go. The main thing is to have all the relevant paperwork done when you send your application to Canberra, as I think they only do their end once a week, and if they want more info, it puts you back another week.
If I can help any further, give me a PM.
Cheers Geoff

Didn't we figure out this wasn't a 'Sport'? Brett had the gos from memory, it's just for sale by 'Isuzu Sport'. Would be a cool little rig nonetheless.

Dave, IMPORTING:
does one need the import certificate before you buy a car?
apart from the risk, one might see a car for auction and does not have enough time to get Cert's first
How does it work.

You need a Vehicle Import only when you go to import the vehicle...you can purchase a car without one obviously, but run the risk of not being awarded a permit and being stuck with a car overseas you can't bring in. Having said that, I can't imagine too many situations with older cars (60's, 70's, etc) where you wouldn't be awarded a permit.
Logistically, your biggest challenges here would be:
(a) Finding a way to register and bid.
(b) If you win, paying for and removing the car.
(c) Storage whilst you wait for permit and arrange shipping.
(d) Arranging shipping (

Cheers,
Duane

North Island.
You have to have a Invoice for the car to get a Vehicle Import.
If you read the website will give you the criterior for the vehicle, the age of the Bellett makes it is very easy to to comply with the requirements. The web site says 15 days to get a permit (that is working days) when I imported mine they were out to 20 days, Make sure that you send all the requirements as each thing that you do not send them, puts it back another week, and they seem to be able to find something every week, you will need photographs of the car, photo copy of you ID copy of Invoice or proof of ownership. Once you have a permit contact forwarding agents, sit back a wait.
You will have to pay customs and GST.and because of its age there is no Impot Duty.
Regards Geoff

To add to that, if the car arrives here without VIA approval, you will be paying around $500/day storage on the wharves.
So obviously it's always good to get the VIA approved before it even leaves... of course, the government's 14-day turnaround took a good 60 days last time I went to import a car...
Things may have slowed up a bit now though.
Yeah I'd roll those two Princes... geez! Who was this guy!??!?

Yes Dave mine took about the same time, it seems like every Tuesday I would get an email about something, and even if I had the answer back to them in minutes would get another request the following Tuesday. They don't inform you when it has been approved, just send the paperwork, with mine, the first Tuesday that I did not get a request I checked my bank card statement and found they had taken their fees, so I guessed that it had been approved.

Well, I can recommend Taurus Logistics...I haven't imported with them, but have enquired and they know what they're doing, plus they have Aussie offices. I'd be keen on that Saab, but really need someone over there to handle the bidding and the payment. Got any sympathetic NZ punters nearby? Maybe the agent that sold you yours IGT?
Kerry's the Prince man on here...I'd love a decent one, but they're consistantly $5k out of my price range for good ones.
