Late model GT

Hey All,

Just posting this link to a good set of pictures of a 70's model GT with the flow through ventilation indicators under the bumper and those god awful tail lights

I don't see many photo's of these around so though it might be of interest. The laptop I'm using here doesn't have the Japanese language pack installed so I can't translate the page but the pictures are worth a thousand words... or something like that!

Alpha Romeo styling. Unique Isuzu mechanism. Many technologically revolutionary features.
Something about the Coupe being a concept car as opposed to the main line sedan.
Final form was the Bellett 1800GT.
Front bumper was changed to 1600GTR. 170,000 total Belletts, of those 17,000 GTs, and of those 1,400 GTRs.
In parts alone this car has significant value.

Front grille is medium type, was changed. Hood painted black to reduce sun glare. Looks like a GTR from the front.

Rear is later style tail lamp. Only looks like a GTR from the front.

Previous owner painted and garaged the car. Something about a nail at the bottom of the rear bumper.

Wood grain panel. Something about hexagonal styling. Three spoke wheel with horn in the spokes.

Some interior tears. Aftermarket door speaker missing grille.

Engine compartment painted too. 1800 SOHC engine, twin SU carbs, bright orange painted air cleaner.

That's a short hood car with a G180S engine. Is the appearance of the G161S the same?

Odd that the battery changes from the left side of the car to the right side.

As for the G180S and G161S (OHV, non cross flow engines) I believe that they have similar rocker covers with the ribbing and a metal oil fill cap. The G161 (SOHC cross flow) engine from a Gemini has a black rocker cover that is flatter and a black plastic filler cap. The easiest way to get a shot of the G161 SOHC engine (that wasn't used in Belletts) is to look up the Australian Gemini...

I could be completely wrong with the designations for the OHV engines as I don't have much practical experience with them.. My area is mainly G151 (OHV), G161 SOHC and G200W's DOHC.

G151? Now that's rare!
The Gemini and early Rodeo/Jackaroo SOHCs are the Z series (G161Z, G180Z & G200Z).
These are very different to the G161S & G180S SOHC that were in the Belletts etc. (Bearings, conrods etc are mostly the same as with many Isuzus G & 4Z series engines, but the Z's are the Opel-ised Isuzu engines AFAIK.)
The S-series looks like the old SOHC Datsuns; they have the inspection hatch on the side like the twin-carb version shown at http://www.n-classiccar-jp.com/car/isuz ... bellet.htm above.
And although the G161S & G180S look similar, many parts are different sizes (oil filter assembly etc).

The G180S block is the same block (effectively) as the later G200W (and I assume the later blue G180W).
The Bellett at Centre Rd Wreckers (Melbourne) had a G180S. The head is still there, but the block is gone.
