my 2c also.
I remember the car at the Nats but admit not a close look. It may or not be worth the ask but you also have to factor in a RWC and these days, its getting harder and harder for 'old' cars.

You could almost count of a new screen and brakes being required. And if they see rust, watch out!

My local RWC guy who I did several cars through in the past, including my ex GT, is not interested in looking at 'old' cars now.

OK, I better chuck in my $2 worth. Why $2? "Cause you can't even get 2c anymore!
I suppose there are a lot of things you can't get anymore - when I was a kid I could get a bag of lollies for 2c.

A little more info - James isn't on here, so he's asked Gary to put it up. I think he likes the personal touch of talking on the phone, and his email is there for more pics.

Just to help a little, I actually sold James this car. It's the one that came with Aunty Mary. It is Roman Red, and original. The paint is sound except for the obvious chips & scrapes. Inside the door closures is really good. Its polished up reasonably well, and if it were me I'd fix the worst of the dags & touch it up.(But I'm a bit of an original freak!) You could do a 'doors closed' spray and get a good result. There is very little rust anywhere. I put in a week re-sleeving the brakes & other bits & pieces to get it ready for club rego.
It needed new tyres, which James has fitted. I don't know what else he's done, but I'm confident you could drive this car home.
I suppose I look at the things you don't have to do - Motor, 'Box (even 2nd gear synchros), clutch, diff, brakes, cooling system all good. I'm pretty sure everything works.

Hey OZ, I'm coming over there for the Nats, and I reckon I'll bring a trailer. Perhaps you can hook me up for one of those bargains. ;) They don't seem to happen 'over east'. Got any for sale yourself? I'll be all over it!

Cheers friends,
Lets not talk 'em down, we don't want guests on here ringing the crushers! (Unless it's my mate Dave, then I'll get them !!)
Matt.

It's like I said in a thread some time ago, if we're not prepared to pay for them (and we are the one's who love and desire them) then who will? Then that same value will be reflected in what any insurer will deem them to be worth to cover in any case of loss.
I personally think they're worth every cent the value any Mazda RX2-7, Datto 12-1600 or Escort RS 1800/2000 goes for.
It may sound a little stupid to say but I actually hope the glory days end on 'cheap' Belletts as I really want my pride and joy to be 'worth more' then what it simply means to me.
Does that make sense? Does to me.

Mind you I wouldn't knock back a bargin basement one if it was waved under my nose for more than a brief moment

I agree with Greg.
The Roman red car is not expensive in fact it is cheap compared to doing even a rough resto on most cars that you have to trailer home .Depends on whether a person wants a hobby project and time / money is not the main concern or wants a tidy original example of a rare car without spending very much money. I have done it both ways over many years and a good tidy original runner wins everytime if it comes to cost but a project and the satisfaction you get at the end is sometimes more important to a person than money - just pays to be clear on which camp you are in before you start. You can easily end up with an expensive unfinished project and no more money. Another thing is that personal circumstances generally change over the life of a project ( kids, houses, jobs etc. ) and pays to take these factors in to consideration before you start. I believe that we have some really good cars ( Belletts , Wasps ,Florians ..) in Australia but at present they are undervalued .
