Road Trip USA 2013

Post by KJB »

Just a note to let members know that Bellett/Bellell Forum comradeship is alive and well ,and as Greg found out in Japan, operates Internationally. AnneMarie and I have recently also experienced this on our recent Road Trip USA holiday. The friendship and hospitality extended to us by Mark and Jeanine at Tampa and then Trevor and Gee at Portsmouth was really exceptional with meals ,accommodation and tours provided as well as the mandatory Bellett/ Bellell extended discussions. Marks PR10, 1300, late model 2 door sedan is in excellent condition and requires only minor work to make it a very desirable vehicle (it already is rare and desirable ) Trevors Bellel is a time warp machine . 34,000 miles ,still on original cross ply tyres, clear plastic still on some of the interior handles ,air con. cruise control, fabric interior (excellent condition ) diesel motor. In Australia both of these cars would be unique. I would love to see both parties attend an Aust. Bellett Nationals because their enthusiasm and friendliness would fit right in to, and add to , the spirit of the Nationals.(nearly have to call it the "Bellett Internationals."..... !) We would like to thank our US members for 2 of the high lights of our trip. Thanks.
Should probably mention that we visited a friend of ours in Colorado (ex Ballarat ) who has a mobile wheat seed cleaning business and he uses Isuzu trucks (Japanese trucks as well as cab over engine configuration are unusual in USA ) and his newest trucks are "Isuzu" but branded "Dodge. "
For anyone interested fuel averaged $1 / litre, motels $ averaged $80 / night , we drove 24,000 kms. over 9 weeks. in a hired Dodge 7 seater people mover . USA is not expensive, roads are excellent, people really friendly , and there are heaps of things to do and see.

thanks for the info Kerry. Sounds like a great trip. I didn't get around quite as much as you in my trips there but always found the locals very friendly also.

Can only agree

In California and Nevada mainly, Hotels near Hoover Dam $20 per night good as Las Vegas hotels at $200 per night people were great, cant wait to get back there. You would have seen a lot in 9 weeks, sounds like you had a great time. Hope to see you at the nationals

Ross, my wife Sarah and I went there in 2010 and found the same thing!

So awesome, and while we didn't see any Belletts, I bought a GT-style 'gas pedal' from a now-defunct user from California called "Jeffs Bellett" who specifically joined the forum to sell us bits off a Bellett wreck he found in a wreckers. It was gone by the time we got to Cali, so we didn't chase it even for a squiz, but I paid $10.00 for the pedal, so I imagine he wasn't making huge dough of us, but just wanted to make sure some usable parts escaped the clutches of the crushers!

He also showed us his Datsun 510 and told us of the Japanese Classic Car show that just HAPPENED to be one while we were there, much to my wife's chagrin.

No Belletts there, although one guy said he wanted one (he was there in a Toyopet) and another guy with a beautiful Toyota Century said he had an orange Bellett GTR; I think I know the car, but he couldn't enter two.

So it's there if you dig for it!

Pity our dollar's gone a bit belly-up!

Davo,
Thanks , I have the SCW. We did enjoy our trip ,an easy and relatively inexpensive country to tour.

Great to know you had a good trip.

Next time, if you are out California way, let us know we would be happy to put you up! Maybe by then I will get my project back on the road :) Some day I hope to get over that way too!
