Solidarity gone wrong

Hi Ya'All, Nice to see things happening on B.Net. I've been out of the loop a while as Fire danger Season is all consuming again, including a few late controlled burn offs thrown in.

I still fang my Blue Beastie on my days off though. And as a show of solidarity to the French after the horrendous acts of terrorism, I thought it fitting to drive around in red white and blue. Thanks to Carol and the two red/white and white/red Isuzu flags which were traded of for my hand made emblem, they looked rather awesome draped over the seats of my very blue GT.

However, (look at the photo) I think it wasn't well received . Most people on the road would only see "IS" on the banners and not know what the car is anyway.With the fear of terrorism still alive in peoples minds, I was swiftly escorted back home by a very inquisitive police car....NO BULL .

Also put up some photos of the Roman Red 67 still for sale around the corner from my place. It has had a beaut makeover with a top paint job. I think he wants to recover the costs putting the price too high in my books, but still a very tidy car. I will still encourage him to shed it and drive it, as it hurts to see it sitting in the hot sun every day just perishing and on a main road subject to vandals. Besides, the hub caps might go missing mysteriously one night

He wants $5,700 for it Matt and possibly worth all of that. Not in a position myself to fork out that or even make him an offer, although it is desirable...Liz is craving for her own sedan . Never thought I would see the day Liz had the complete Bellett itch. The pennies are being saved for Albury tho, gotta be there.

I know this is kinda slightly off topic (bite me B ) BUT

My two cents worth.....

I reckon that roman red sedan is worth every part of the 5700 he's asking.
It's a very tidy, ready to drive, freshly painted car (there's min 2-3k worth of paint work on it, and that's just for a light sand n blow over, closed door coat - unless of course you have the means and place to do a professional job yourself - but HONESTLY how many of us REALLY do? Apart from Steve n Luke not many, I can spray a car like alot of us can, but not likely to that std in the back yard)
It will likely need nothing but rego spent on it to be on the road and cruisin' in a VERY nice sedan that is only ever going to appreciate in value.

But that all said, it's just like you say Broom Broom, having that kind cash to spend is another story for what in reality for 99.9% of people will only be a weekend play car (some may have that kind of money to play with...... not me)
The way I look at it is though (and this is coming from a single guy with no mortgage or family to care for so it doesn't apply to 90% of others here) people will pay 20/30/50/90 thousand for a NEW car to drive daily without batting an eyelid. Sure they have aircon, leather seats, satnav, power windows, cup holders and the added security of airbags and abs bla bla bla bla.... but for me I choose to drive a Bellett as my daily.

I payed $2142.oo 6/7/8?yrs ago (Davo can likely confirm when) for a sedan that had no brakes, a tired engine, buggered tail&short shaft uni's, was brush painted with fence paint and interior (apart from seats) was rooted (doors cards swollen 2" thick and underlay put under vinyl mats by someone was rotten from water) and my money is on the fact that no one here would have paid that kind of money for an old sedan needing alot of work..... that same sedan is now infamously know as "Donkey" (I've been offered $8300 for Donkey and I wouldn't even consider that a reasonable deposit)
I recently paid 5k for a rusty rolling shell of a Bellett that needs a complete ground up resto, admittedly it only has half as many doors as this sedan so it will be worth most of the money it will take to bring it back to life, but it will never be worth more to me then a particular teardrop sitting in the driveway........ EVER!

$5700 for a FINISHED sedan that needs nothing but a proud owner to take it home, love it and occasionally blow the wind through it's grill........ BARGIN !!!

Totally agree with you ,Stickman.
An "economical" paint and upholstrey job will cost the best part of $10K . and that is without any rust removal , brake rebuilds or any mechanical repair woes . This Roman Red is not an expensive car if there are no other major issues. Pay ,drive and enjoy.

Yep, a ditto from me too.
Having had this car pass through my driveway I look and think, oh to have it back now! I only sold it because James was looking for a nostalgic ride, which he had and enjoyed for a time. Its moved around a bit since, and sadly is not in the hands of someone who wants to enjoy it. 'Scarlet' deserves a loving home. I can't buy em all! (Mores the pity!)
She had a great willing motor, not her original one by the number, but a 68 produced one. James and Gary fixed the little things, though it needed an exhaust system when he sold it. I was told her history from new.
If you have a car in your shed waiting for a resto, this would be a cheaper way to go, and way quicker. And you could get some money for the project.
Think about it.

The Roman Red looks a ripper, I'd be tempted if it was a 69/70 Deluxe, but even then there's not much spare cash kicking around for obscure cars these days. After the GT bingle I'd think twice about using an old car daily...it's not my capabilities that are the issue, it's every other bozo on the road!

The owner came to me for advice which I was only too happy to help with. He mentioned what he wanted...... I offered more. Quite a bit more. He wouldn't take it. Honestly, so I grabbed it.
And the spares.

Obviously you must know more than I do about the deal I agreed too tho.

That's how it ended up, not how it began.
I know there was interest shown from Qld, NSW and SA as well, but once he was insulted, it went to ground and was to stay in Vic.
Maybe if people hadn't been rude things would have been different, but that's their loss.
And as it was his car, it was his choice where it went too. People seems to forget that.....

I inspected and bought the car, to be picked up later, well before I got the Sport. (which is over 3 years already from arrival, near 4 from buying) But shortly after a Niece of the owner decided she wanted it, so Jack phoned me.. the deal was off by mutual agreement. That was ok with me, family comes 1st. It is the same seller?
I have no idea what deal you made, price etc.

Was his granddaughter. Was looking at it as a first car. Decided against (new cars with all the safety gear are better for a new driver IMHO too), so didn't get used.
Obviously you got your Sport in the meantime.
As said, came to me for advise about 18 months ago (assuming he knew that you already had another car). I tried to set it up for another member who was seriously looking for a good one. Fell thru..... Went to see the owner, rest is history

as far as i know, i was the 1st to actually go look at it.... But good it went to a nice home and gets used.

I called him about it but it was after he had been given the shiv and told me he would only sell if it stayed in Vic despite my offer. All good though as it was his car, his choice..... and as Glenn said it has now found a good home.
Besides that, it has now been for a fang with Donkey so I'm satisfied with having spent that time with it

Dam right Duane. It started in a parking lot when i had to give way to 2 paranoid middle age house wifes, both in white Commodores. Got a bit angry, as they obviously needed to go back to driving school. Wasn't going to part of thier bingle, not by choice anyway.

And yes Sticko, and yes Matt. Mortgages and lack of funds certainly getting in the way of a beaut sedan, or other Bellett needing a good home at the moment, drive away no more to pay!! There is always the retirement fund.....will still be some changing hands for whatever reason in the future I'm sure.
