Hi there all.
I’m hoping that someone can help me out with changing the head gasket in the Red Beast.
I don’t have much in the way of funds or correct tools and knowledge to do this with the kids doing the work.
My back is buggered and can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel to work out if it’s truly light or knowing my luck a train.
I’m on the beautiful Central Coast NSW.
I have it in a garage to work on it.
Or I have a trailer to take it somewhere else to be done.
I won’t be putting it on the track any time soon but I hope to have it at some shows and display days but need it running.
If it was a push rod motor I could tell the kids how to do it in my sleep but I haven’t played with DOCH motors in a looong time.

Anyone going south for the summer with a towball not in use.

My back is extremely bad with 3 surgeries in the last year and a half with no luck.
I’ve had a heap of nerves burned off in my spine. No help.
So going to see about surgery number 4 in February.
I struggle to drive 30 mins without pain.
I sometimes struggle with pain lifting a 3litre milk bottle.
I’m hoping that someone can help me please.
Any one heading south with a towball not in use.

Hey there Kev. Paying a mechanic may be the easiest solution, but never cheap anymore.
How hard can it be? I had to do a 3 litre Cressida twin cam and had no previous experience. Found a bunch of discussions online about the tension (which Toyota had too light in the first place, 52 ft/lb !!). It was a long job as there is lots of plumbing, but I took photos for the reassembly. I marked the timing chain and pulleys to get them back in the correct place, and didn't turn the motor while it was off. Took the head to Engine rebuilders in Canberra for a surface grind and hardness check. The valves and guides were all fine. (Only 150,000 ks)
You will need a tension wrench, but standard sockets and tools should do the rest. I had to borrow a high tensile hex drive for the tension wrench as it had hex studs.
I reckon with you pointing and directing, the young ones can do it.

I hope the next surgery is the last you need, and you become pain free. I have had a herniated disc in the past, which still gives me grief sometimes, but I've learned to be careful. Back pain is the worst, but if you can still get around, thats better than for some. You will be better in the future.

BUGGER! If I had internet service in the lead up to the holiday break I might have seen this and could have trailered it anywhere south for you.
I had an empty flat bed and car trailer all the way from Brissy to Albury to pick up a couple of cars myself (inc the Wagga sedan off Ebay)
Only gear I had on board for the south bound trip was the bigger parts for Peter's 117 that he couldn't get sent with the car.
Not good to hear about your back mate
Hope the 4th attempt gives you some relief from the pain

I’m not too sure how long it’s going to take but it looks like a bolt or 2 a day to strip it down.
Then check what needs fixing. I’m pretty sure my budget is like the process about $1 a day.
If people get bored with their lives and want a working holiday on the beautiful central coast I’m sure you can get as busy as you like.
Just remember the budget $1 a day.
