Hello to all of this great community,

Hope you can help us with some issue we have had in our 1965 Bellett. I'm writing from Perú, Southamerica, and me and my father bought this car a few years ago, in very bad condition, and at this time we made almost full restoration, but we were having a big trouble with the rear suspension camber, when a weeks ago we change the wheels and tires, and the camber goes positive. Also we have to change rear springs, because when we change the wheels and tires with the stock suspension, the tire scraped with the rear fender.
We are near to put this car in an historic car competition here in Perú (3 hours race), but we are very shamed that we couldn't fix it before the race, so that´s why I turn to you, experts in this materia, to help us, of what we should do to fix it up.

This is how we bought the car with the original suspension (paiting was did it already), but can notice that front suspension was too high, and rear suspension camber was already positive.

Then we got some troubles when we lowring front suspension and with the positive camber of rear suspension, because we bought newer wheels, with a higher offset, and we actually need to replace original suspension springs.

When we ask to many mechanics here in Perú, almost most of them didn't see a rear suspension like this one, and they told us to get back to original wheels and tires. But we are not sure, because, we see a lot of pictures on the web, with a lot of Bellett's with rear suspension with bigger wheels and in negative camber. Also, we were thinking to cut the back fender to make room, but we trust we don't have to spoil the original shape, if it could be fixed propertly.

Please, we need your kindly help of what we should do about this. We don't want to change the actuals wheels and tires we bought. We take care a lot of this car, we used to have a Packard, a Renault 4CV, but we want to stay with this.

Hope you can help us. Any question you could have, will be response as soon as we can. If we can talk about it will be better, my cellphone number is +51933845837

Thank you very much, and we were very glad to be part of this forum.

Hi, I am not an expert here but it might help also to tell us what size are the alloy wheels you have fitted. Width and offset especially.

Have you tried rolling the car forward after fitting the wheels? It's common for the wheels to sit like that after you have jacked up the car. The rear should drop down after rolling the car.
It does appear you have very wide wheels though and a lot of positive offset. My own car (below) for example has 5" wide alloy rims. I think you can fit upto a 6" wide wheel if the offset is correct.

But somebody more expert than I will no doubt reply soon with details to help you.

By the way, the front of a Bellett usually sits higher, from the factory. Most owners here fit a lower spring.

Glenn
