Multiple users removed

Post by dave »

Hi guys,

I've not checked the Forum for a week (has it been that long already?!?!) and Dave Maurice rang me this morning to say there's been about 20 new users in the last 24 hours!

If any of those are legitimate users, I'm sorry, but you're all deleted until you prove you're not bots, spam or some other 21st-century forum affliction.

Deleted back to YLDGEM, who at least has an Isuzu connection in his name and I've seen him on other forums!

Cheers to Dave for letting me know.

I think he also got PR91 Brett to delete some pr0n too!

Cheers,

Dave

Antus, forum guru, changed some settings to try to make it harder for the spambots to work out, however they apparently found it EASIER to work out....

He has re-set the security to how it was before we started getting slammed by spam and I have deleted all users and their posts back to YLDGEM.

Sorry for any inconvenience; if you have any further issues, email, PM me or if you have my number give me a buzz.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi,ya Dave, Antus, Ross and people who keep B'net in trim. Haven't been on here for a while but cannot believe how this net attack has been happening lately. There were a couple more spammers only a few minutes ago but since been miraculously removed. Cheers to you guys for keeping up with it.

Rock on B'net and the great site created for these fantastic little 4 wheeled creatures and their whacky owners,

B.

Hey just a bit more on the spammers...

There have been a few users per week (more those last few days, but that should be fixed now) that have weird email addresses - once recent one had a Russian email address and while we've got one legitimate guy on here that is in Russia, the general deal is that they are spammers. There was also another guy who's ISP is in Georgia, USA. He had a name that didn't involve Belletts and his interests and hobbies did not include Belletts.... or anything car related.

As a result, those two guys are gone, even though they didn't put any spam up. The most recent user as at today is 36pickup. Good start; that IS a car-related name! Although he hasn't post (and may never post) he's got a BIGPOND email address... this goes a long way to being a legitimate person, so I'll leave him up.

It's a bit hit and miss and may wipe out some legitimate people but I've been around the Net long enough to take an educated guess where needed... and legitimate people may come back and say "heeeyyyyyyy" and if they do, then that's great.

The only way to definitely ensure no spammers is to vet every single user that joins, however that is not only time consuming, it can chase off users who ask to sign up then forget to ever come back. If this happens, we may miss out on meeting some people that we would really like to meet.

So for the time being, we'll have to smash the spammers as we see them! As Brett said in another post, many of you have either his number or my number... and I thank Bruno for making the call the other day and leaving me a voicemail to advise me that someone was trying to pornup Bellett.net again.

Same as with Brett, if you want my number PM me!

Cheers guys,

Dave

Many thanks for the tireless efforts.

What do these idiots get out of posting stuff we are going to ignore or outright hate?
Do they do it just for the money their masters pay them?
