Its just bolt on flares. A bit too Nissan Patrol for me. Unless its raised 200mm or so and made 4 wheel drive.......with a diesel..... and dual range.......and big square mud tyres. Then it would suit.

I say do what you want with it, i dont mind flares done right or neg camber on the right car. Those wheels look killer! If your talking to an engineer do as much as you can!

Hi,

I have been making some enquiries in Japan for some parts for the GT and I have been offered parts off a series 2 Bellett which is the later model with the plastic grill and the square tail lights and wanted to know if any of the body parts will fit mine.

E.G.
Front & Rear Glass
Doors & door frames and glass
Gauges
Bumpers
Rear seats
GT steering wheel & column
Drip rail stainless driver side
front valance panel that is welded to the front of the car with the GT indicators.

There will be more parts as I am trying to keep the body standard as possible with exception of the flares.

I am thinking I will be ok but not sure so if someone who would know the difference could you please let know before I go any further.

I am also chasing other GT Parts for my PR91 like grill and headlight buckets and lights, tail light lenses which I already know are hard enough to find. Plus what ever else you may think I need.

The bits you are talking as in door top ect should be fine. little differences are there like the door mould on top of the door trims may be 3 screws not 4 as the ones in aus.
You say pr91 I am not trying to be smart but early pr91 single headlight grill would be hard to find, tail lights same as sedan same era, the later 4 headlight job the grill is the same as sedan and would be easy to find but gt tail lights would be much harder including Japan aus had yellow blinkers jap was both red. later pr91 can have the late sedan grill and the tail lights from the model you are getting parts from in Japan indicator mod yellow bulb in reverse light and a after market reverse light? Or use sedan they are 1 piece.
Above are some options you may need to clarify what model pr91 as there are 3? when chasing bits. Or in your case mix and match.

Would the body number give us any details on what model it might be, it looks like a twin head light model but I am not sure.

This is becoming a bit of a nightmare, as the person I am dealing with is not really a specialist in Bellett's but more with Datsun's & Mazda's, so not sure.

Has anyone set up an account on the English version of Yahoo Japan as a lot of parts are available through many sellers and wanted to know if anyone has had much success in purchasing parts from the site. I would like to fit the later 68-69 grill as I like that one and have seen a few for sale at reasonable prices.

Glass is my biggest concern right now all the other stuff I can work out as I go along, I was trying to consolidate my shipment to reduce my costs overall.

I can give you my body number if that will assist.

Ok, my body number states it was manufactured in August 1967 based on the info page with all the different model variations over the years, if this helps with any details I should be asking.

If you are doing the mods you intend on the car does it matter which bit you use? Most of us are in the same situation where we use what we can get and live with it or until we get the right bits. In you case a purist will not be upset because the taillights don't match the grill.

Absolutely 100% spot on.
Any Bellett parts aren't falling out of trees, so we make do. And when its modified, does it matter?

As for the list if what's needed.....
Bumpers. Use sedan ones. Front need a slight mod, but 10 minutes with an angle grinder does it.
Front stone tray (valance). Sedan. Weld up the sedan used holes and cut GT ones. The lights can be adapted off other cars. Same style was common in pommie stuff.
Gauges are available aftermarket. GT originals are non existent and not accurate.
Steering column. If you're over 6 foot tall, use a sedan column and outer tube. Trust me..... You'll need it. Wheel. GT you'll battle with and again, over 6 foot, too big. Aftermarket has a very close copy that's smaller.
Rear seat. Mod a sedan one. Most need recovering anyway, and assuming you'll put better seats in the front, is the easiest option.

Very good point.
Get an engineer involved before you touch any of it. Many cars have been built and then never seen light because they just did as they liked without approval.

You mean an already developed and engineer approved disc conversion.....
And there's twin cams about. 1600, 1800 and 2000. Just depends on who's selling. I'm not tho.
Been done to death IMHO. Isuzu had other engines that respond very well when you know what they need too.

And that light blue one with black flares is too low. Will never work properly.
Mine is about as low as they will go with a normal Bellett layout, but it still needed mods.

We have a minimum height of 100mm for road rego in SA and that is based at the lowest point of the car including the exhaust.

So the Blue one is just for reference only to show how it looks with flares.

I have spoken to a mate of mine and I am going to still try the SR20 conversion, I am trying to get hold of a wreck to trial fit and make the necessary mods before I cut up the GT.

I have spoken to a mate of mine and I am going to still try the SR20 conversion, I am trying to get hold of a wreck to trial fit and make the necessary mods before I cut up the GT.

You'll never get it that low even with airbags..... There's simply not enuf travel under them on bump. I think that blue one is an optical illusion, especially with only that small amount of neg camber on the rear vs how low it is.
You will get 100mm off the road tho. It will ride hard, like mine does, again simply to reducing the travel, but mine is 100mm excluding exhaust, so lower than you can go.
Many have commented on how low mine is, so it must be lower than others go, but it still works.
Flares, done right, look good. Important part is: done right...... because they instantly lose the squared off rear guard line that is a huge Bellett feature IMHO, and I've seen radiused rears done well and also done bloody terribly.
