the "name game" of Belletts/Wasps/Florians
the "name game" of Belletts/Wasps/Florians
hiya all.
i'm sure some of us have noticed that some users "name" their pride and joys on here.
i think this is something of a light hearted nature, and i understand that some may like doing so while others think it's silly, but it really came to light at the Nats last weekend when we were all talking, as the conversations were centred around "walter's", "bella's", "patche's'", "sid's", "sybil's", and towards the end, we met "rolly"....
anyway, as a bit of Bell/Wasp/Flo fun, i thought we should all post the "name" of our own car/s so that the rest will know who/what we are talking about!
and also, i think it's a good thing if we all know what "names" are in use so we don't double, triple, quadruple up on names.
so, if you have a "name" for your car/s, please post them below, with a brief explanation as to where the name came from, as i know some of them are very clever!
as for me:
the Wasp isn't named.
the GT is called "izzy" by my daughter, who by the way claims it's HER GT.... "izzy" is short for "izzy isuzu".
and the race car is "sybil".... my wife named it that after basil fawlty's wife from the TV show "fawlty towers". her reckoning was that as sybil fawlty either absolutely loved you and everything went fine, or she completey hated you and everything went terrible, that sums up my race car in 1 sentence!

Bella ... 68 PR20 sedan ... shortened version of Bellett as well as Italian for beautiful, feisty and curvaceous.
Ursula .... 64-68 sedan ... I was thinking of Ursula Andress as she walks out of the surf in the James Bond movie, sexy, seductress with a hot bod when I thought up the next project.
Cheers

Re: the "name game" of Belletts/Wasps/Florians
isabel ... is a bel lett
missie ... had a issue where it missed under load it took a longtime to find. missie as in stubbin little spoilt bi###.
patches... man this thing is patchwork all done properly but it consumed 2 large sheets of panel steel.
ol yella... she was yellow when dad owned it in the seventies and still is today and it's new colour will be ????? no prizes for guessing.
no Gerry not pink
walter... i was not allowed to call him wallie
angus... pr90 family had a english bull terrier that had bitten one of their offspring and they had to get rid of him we adopted him and he lived with us for around 10 years and never bit another sole.he passed in the mid 80's but lives on. This wasp was named at coona in memory of angus the white bull terrier that spent his life not too far away from a bellett.
rollie... was saved from a padock in coona. The repaires were started when i got home to see his fate as belletts on my property fall into 2 catagories shed or behind the shed his fate was in the shed as i was after a car to hill climb, sprints ect that was in ok condition without destroying a good car as one day it may end up on its lid [ROLLED] hence rolie.
unfortunatly .there are gt's behind the shed.
red sedan... Christine has naming rights.

Re: the "name game" of Belletts/Wasps/Florians
I can see how all these names appear... but like the great Jeremy Clarkson, I've always been loathe to name my cars (eg: there are no Opel Kadetts called Oliver, nor shall there ever be).
I guess there are some random-ish names though that have popped up. The Freegards (Bellett enthusiasts in Adelaide hills) always named their cars too; Roger Frederick Jeffery is now Ross's 69-model sedan and they got their naming structure from the numberplate RFJ-156 (or something - numbers are irrelevant).
Anyway, my cars have gained names as follows:
FeralVan - Gemini panelvan (red one, with mural on side - now gone to God) - FeralVan as one of my friends thought any van with a mural was feral (she was right). It was retrospectively named FeralVan 97 after I bought a replacement.
FeralVan 2000 - Gemini panelvan (blue one, no mural) - named FeralVan 2000 as I bought it in 1999 and the new Millenium was full of promise. I sold it. It was a pig.
BreadVan - Gemini panelvan (chamois one) - named BreadVan as it was like a FeralVan, except it was the same colour as bread, much the same shape as bread and quite possibly delivered bread. It is sometimes called Breader for short.
Ratter - 1966 Isuzu Bellett rat-rod. This is one I pulled from a back yard. Drive good, paint is falling off though, so I helped it along with a good strong hi-pressure wash and some stickers which I then peeled off.
GT, Wasp and other sedan are usually referred to as such, although f****** prick is sometimes applied to any of them (especially GT).
"Yellow car" was name applied to VH Commodore as it was Post-It Note Yellow (aka Cameo Yellow, officially)
"Purple Car" is name applied to VY Sandman
Swift is name applied to Swift
Naming convention has been all over the shop, as you can see....
My 2c worth. It wasn't actualy as interesting as I'd hoped.
Peace out.
Dave

Re: the "name game" of Belletts/Wasps/Florians
It may not be a Bellett or Isuzu of origin but my old Datsun Stanza was called 'Jess'.
I named it after the bitch off Footrot Flats.
My old tear drop is usually refered to simply as 'the green machine' but it is also refered to as 'Ralph' by my sister as she reckons that's what the colour makes her want to do when ever she sees it.

Re: the "name game" of Belletts/Wasps/Florians
I have a "Red Back" commodore ute with the same number plate.......hence my nickname.
and of course "Stinky" my Bellett Deluxe Sedan with XTINCT numberplates.
Then I have a custom chopper I named M8RIX - cause it is green and black.
I also had an Isuzu/Holden Gemini station wagon (my first car) with numberplate TE 1982 that never got named - it just did not have any personality for some reason.
cheers
Neil

Barney, after the dinosaur thing on the children's tv show. My flatmates named it due to the colour, even if its not quite the same the name has stuck and I think it suits.

Re: the "name game" of Belletts/Wasps/Florians
Hi Guys & Girls,
This is my first post to Bellett.net. Dave and Brett shamed me into joining at Coona Nationals.
My car naming goes way back to my first bellett named "Edward" because of its number plate letters EWD, then the next car "Mickey" and now my GT "Rufus" because of the original NSW plates AND the way it behaves like a Dog on cold winter mornings!
Anyway, what a great weekend meeting I had at Coona. It was amazing to see that many Belletts in one place. It must be a record! Credit to those who organised it. I had a safe 1800km round trip but unfortunately had one windscreen stone chip from a Bee Double which is repairable. Greg, when are those windscreens arriving?
Cheers,
Lewis
