warwick the wasp

Post by gt orphanage »

Warwick was the wasp formaly owned waspy87. Liz adopted it a little while back. This car is a long term project but as patches is in a new panel shop making progress at the moment. I could not help myself but have a project and work is quiet also. We are trying to get some luv parts out of the states, like ball joints, upper controll arm bushes, idler arms all look the same and as cheap as.
The car is in teardown mode starting from today and the powdercoaters were advised it's on the way to them next week. When we dropped bits to them today. From here the chassis will be bought back to a rolling and a 3 bearing motor built to replace the 1600 as well as a gearbox rebuild. Liz want's this one as close to original as possible. (it's cheaper to powdercoat than to sandblast and paint it)

This car will be built over time and in spurts we hope to have it back to a rolling chassis by the time patches returns home. The plan is to rebuild the gearbox and a engine later in the year. Next week we will make a jig on caster wheels for the cabin. This will allow it to sit over the chassis while it's in storage and easy to handle when it gets sandblasted and panel repairs. The tub from this one will be replaced with a tub from another wasp which is in better condition.
Gerry thongs are the best workshop shoes out a couple of examples are have you ever had hot slag down your boot  and only today i used a thong to hold a spanner against the chassis while a 3/4 rattle gun spoke to a torsion bar :).
As far as blue gt's are concerned if it's mine you speak of it's not painted yet it's getting door gaps and last minute panel alignments done it will be another 4 weeks till it return's.
Sorry Davo a yellow gt waits for some love it has a glory box where bits get done and stored this is the last one i am going to retire then, unless i find a 36/37 chev coupe utility but i don't look for one in case i find it.

the chassis looks the same as a KB20/Luv, coz it almost is....
everything that hangs off it, or ISN'T governed by width is the same ie: suspension, steering apart from drag link, diff centre, etc.
but as a KB chassis is 3 inches wider thru the middle, anything governed is different ie: diff housing, steering drag link, axles, etc.

hope this helps.

The chassis has returned the rest will be back next week, we have new upper and lower ball joints inner tie rod ends, we had a struggle to match upper control arm bushes. I gave some samples and they are being made if anyone wants some. Rear gt/sedan control arm bushes are being made as well as upper control arm bushes in nolothane and will be available in a few weeks. Not to expensive i have been told so if anyone want's or needs some pm me.
1 powder coated chassis and the gearbox is being dismantled for a sand blast and rebuild. A recent discussion with Lindsay he advised me he was unable to replace wasp lay shaft bearings we had trouble when we did walters they are available in singapore and brisbane bearings can import them ph 07 32654622 part no if anyone is interested k19x24x20 $10.00 each a week to get them.

Nice job there.

So jealous.
It certainly helps when you get a complete vehicle,
so you don't have to go looking for parts that have gone missing over the years.

Looking forward to the next installment.

Cheers
