Almost Isuzu, Opel GT

Post by gt alex »

Hi all,
My name is Alex I have an 1970 Opel GT, It is becoming more and more Isuzu because many parts are similar and opel parts are not available locally.
To date it has Gemini front and rear suspension but i am now tring to complete my isuzu twin cam g200w engine swap the trouble is i have no intake or exhaust manifolds and would like to trake some down.
I am not fussy at this time what carbs/manifold is used or what exhaust manifold stock or extractors.

I hope someone in Bellett world can help and I am all ways happy to talk cars.
my phone no. is 0408 752 070

Thanks Happy Motoring

Hi Alex,
Welcome to Bellett world, GT Orphanage has inlet manifolds to suit webber side draft carbs, the other alternative is to fuel inject it. What is your location?
Cheers Geoff

When I saw your username and worked out you weren't a spammer, I assumed you'd be 'GT Alex' coz you had a Bellett GT. Never thought in a million years, on this forum at least, that you'd be an Opel GT owner!

Awesome little car and obviously very rare here; I saw one on the Bay to Birdwood a few years back. Just like a Corvette only 2/3rds the size!

Hi Dave,
So you know of opel gts
I have had mine about 20 year but it had a poor right hand convsion, hence the gemini front end I put in about 5 years ago.
They were never made rhd and the exhaust manifold of the opel engine is so close to the right hand transmission tunnel and clutch peddel it burns bare feet. Thats why the isuzu engine will be great the exhaust is on the other side, when I bought the car the engine mounts had plates added pushing the motor 50mm to the left I couldn't see why and it caused vibration, little did i know the heat would cook you.
I love my opel and this year its going the have all the things that that annoy me fixed like a a sun roof that has a different curve to the roof.
I will take pictures and keep you posted.

Welcome Alex, I love the added variety of the Opel GT. Very cool car indeed.
I've only ever seen pictures, never in the metal.

LHD only?

Bizarre; I would have thought they were built RHD for the UK market, but you'd know better than me!

The T-car world car project on which the Gemini is based (and obviously released after the Opel GT) was built in RHD as a Vauxhall Chevette for the UK market and LHD as an Opel Kadett for the European market... but strangely, the Vauxhall was also built in LHD for Europe and the Kadett in RHD for the UK!

Boys! Make up your mind and build like, one version each!

Hi dave
I believe most brands in GM built similar gt cars in the mid 60s early 70s
i pulled a few examples from the net but i wasn't able to paste them here whats the trick i'm new at this?
The opel gt was a true gm parts bin the front was viva transverse leaf but wider and the rear all most the same as a gemini wagon except a little narrower.

Parts came from all over gm
I dont think design got much further than a cleaned up prototype that could be built at a price.
There is no boot at all. Only 2 door and a bonnet. The performance motor was cut to save money but opel dealers sold factory appoved upgrade for steet and racing to date I have found they were sold with up to 140 ps for road and 170 for race of the shelf

If you can help me post some pics i would be thankfull

PICTURES:-
when you reply, almost under the "Submit' buton, you will see a 'Browse' text. Click on that and navigate to the picture you want to upload. (it's better to make the picture size smaller also if you can, to conserve space) Once the file is selected, click on the 'Add the file button' and picture will upload. It may take a short while to do so.
