Re: Home away from Home. Max and his Friend!!!
My cars always have damage free front ends Dave!!!
They do a damned good job when keeping bugs and crap out of both the radiator and Intercooler, saves on maintenance.
Not always the most handsome accessory, however when they do the job I don't care, they are worth the money, I can assure you they are not just a pose!!
Check with Gary Smith, when I sold the sedan to him I gave him the one for that car, he uses it on trips also, no doubt you have seen it.

Re: Home away from Home. Max and his Friend!!!
Yeah I meant to get one for the VY Sandman.... and I never did... and now the entire front-end could do with a respray.
And the amount of locusts I've pulled out of the radiator... gross... oh yeah and the African Mynah that didn't get out of the way... BLURGH.
I've just never seen someone with such a comprehensive collection for all occasions!

Re: Home away from Home. Max and his Friend!!!
Must admit I have spent some dollars on them, now they give me a Mickey Mouse price for the Robco product.
Yes you are right they prevent the sand blasting effect also.
If you order one from Robco Products, mention me, they will look after you, they have the pattern now for both sedan and GT in Belletts, the D Max was the first one they made so now they have that pattern also!!
The only difference in the sedan would be the tear drops had different location for the parking lights as against the 69 model.
If you get a quote from the Victorian manufacturerer remember theirs can be stolen from the car, the Robco product can not due to the fitment.

Re: Home away from Home. Max and his Friend!!!
Your going to just love it. Ours with the starcraft behind can easily get the driver in trouble. The speed can creep up on you. Are you using a weight distribution hitch. I got rid of my 50mm ball and use a McHitch from Lithgow. What a difference in towing. Watch out for the new NSW speed rules for vehicle's with a GCM of 4500kg and up. 100kph now. Also covers GCM 4500kg and up. But it seems noboby in authority can say whether yuo actually have to be towing to be restricted. Onc ethe vanning bug gets to you its hard to put down. I just changed fridge in ours to a 12/240 Waeco. All the lights in and out are LED. Next is the battery set up out the door and li-po ones in 1/3 of the weight and DOD depth of discharge cand nbe zero on odd occasions. We aim to free camp a lot so the solar works well for us.
I am about to see an engineer to get the ATM raised currently 475kg payload. Hoping to grt it up to at least 600kg. Keep us all posted. i will endeavour dig out pics of our set up. Just so time short at present.
One thing to lookat is a rear camera on the van, hard wired we have one and it is terrific when in tight spots. And I can assure you I have put the beast in places that others fear to tread.
I just know that you will thoroughly enjoy the whole experience.
I am on this forum: It has a lot of very useful information on it.But beware that experts come in different shapes and forms.
Raena's and my aim is to be self-sufficient in power for a minimum of 10 days. THe only issue is water for that time. You do meet a nicer type of vanner at free camps as well
Peter

Re: Home away from Home. Max and his Friend!!!
Hi Again Pete, the vanning bug, as you call it, has bitten both my wife and I, INTRODUCED by my brother in 2006!
This van is our 4th now and we are literally busting to get away again, we will do a couple of shake down short trips to get familiar with the Sterling and then we eventually will go right around the block.
I always use a hitch, the new I have bought the Anderson Hitch, we will see how that goes, they supposed to be very good and very quiet, some hitches are very noisy, I.E. Camec and Hayman Reese.
What size is your Starcraft?
Email me direct, instead of taking up space on bellett.net, [email protected]
Another angle of our set up below.
Talk soon.
Dave.

Hi Peter
ho big (aH? ) is the Li-P battery you are installing ?
I would assume you have a special charger fit it also.

Re: Home away from Home. Max and his Friend!!!
We are on the way, so far the best free camp has been Copeton Dam on the eastern side. see attached, we stayed for 5 days, with our solar panel power was not a problem, we needed water top up, I will not take water directly out of a Dam of untreated water!
Our solar panel workede really well, of course Max is going well.
