Yesterday's Power rally in Milang, SA
Hey guys,
A few weeks back I worked at the "Yesterday's Power" rally in Milang, SA.
If you've never been to an old-school tractor, machinery and stationary motor show in the countryside, go and do it... DO IT NOW.
Such great vehicles you normally never see at regular car shows.
Check out these machines rolling in; a Willys Knight, an XP Falcon and an awesome 105 Alfa!
The displays are the bulk part of the charm; this guy displays all the oil paraphernalia he has collected:
While this guys displays his freakin' chainsaws! He had about 20 there, but these ones looked to be the heaviest and most deadly!
There were plenty of tractors on display, including some orange Chamberlains, the FASTEST tractors in the country!
For all you bike guys..actually most of you guys would remember being chased by these in your Belletts!
I'm not the world's biggest 105 Alfa fan; they're a nice shape, but they are plentiful and their key-in-the-doorhandle kinda annoys me. Still, this one was very, very nice.
This 1942 American La France fire engine was an Adelaide unit and a strange departure from the usual Bedfords and Dodges. Surely in the midst of WWII we would have just bought some hand-me-down Blitzes and been done with it!
This Austin 1800 was a true survivor with flat paint... but a shiny new plate. Needs a retro plate!
Dude brought his grader... because he could, I guess.
So here are those Chamberlains again. I have previously spoken to the crew with the rear campervan conversion. I noted that these things were pretty fast and asked them what they cruise at on the open road. Mrs answers "Oh pretty fast! A good 50-60km/h!" So that's what they do, all the time; they've driven that thing to bloody Alice Springs! What's more, I noticed a pair of big his-and-her sound deadening earmuffs. God and we think OUR wives are understanding!
I liked the patina of this Blitz.
This Datsun 120Y wagon was clean-as.
The Dodge has had a lot of work done, including a big set of Globe alloys. I had mixed emotions about those wheels on that truck. That sign-writing was all hand-painted, by the way.
PROPER Blitz this time, including two trailers; one for the ammunition and one for the gun!
I spoke to the owner of this Cortina. It was very, very tidy and a one-owner! She (yes, she) also had a one-owner HQ Statesman and a HT (I think) Belmont. She doesn't sell cars... just retires them!
I loved the originality of this truck.
So you've got a Phase III Falcon GTHO, eh? That's nice, but THIS is rarer and I like it a LOT MORE. Behold, the factory-build XY Falcon 4WD!
There were some nice XYs there including this Futura sedan.
...and this slightly-ratty but incredibly awesome panelvan (pity about the windows).
Until the show, I had no idea Harley Davidson dabbled in scooters.
This housepaint-grey FX was a cool thing, as was the caravan...
...and the 1969 rego sticker!
This Honda impressed with no less than six cylinders!
How nice is this Hudson? Wow!
The blue Lanz Bulldog won an award for it's awesomeness.
Anyway, we need to finish this off with some JDM coolness!
This KE10 Toyota was running a 4AGE! Aside from the rims, it was a total sleeper!
I really liked this Nissan Patrol... being a 1965, it was a Nissan before most stuff we got here was a Nissan!
One for Kerry! How's this Nissan Junior? It was a nice mix of original-style and restored. Such an attractive front...looks kinda familiar with the square headlights and the concave grille-to-panel ratio.
Couldn't resist a photo shoot....
Now how about this; I might have to put these pics on Facebook so our Japanese friends can get all enthusiastic; possibly Australia's BEST Holden Shuttle!!!
I got super-excited and asked the driver about it, but it turns out he just works for the radio station and knew nothing of the car.
Holden Shuttles are all but forgotten, but in Japan they still show up at the annual Isuzu meets. They were, of course, the Isuzu Fargo in Japan. This one has ended up with some JDM-ness! These usually had "Holden" here, not Isuzu! I wonder if it got biffed in the rear and this is the part they got.
Interior is really nice too.
The Wasp was the unofficial work car... I didn't tell the boss it lacks crumple zones. And airbags. And seat belts. Trucked all the way down to Milang and back again (about 70 minutes from my house in this... about 50 in a normal car!!) with no problems. First time either myself or the Wasp had been there!
Cheers,
Dave

MATE!!!
Love that Nissan Junior
My old man had one when I worked with him in my teens.
I drove it around for about 4 years myself and loved it, that was until I bought my mates wheel standing F250 custom flatbed.
Have only ever seen 2 other Juniors besides my old mans
Thanks for the pics

Great photos Dave!
That Ford Cortina consul was the exact car my grandfather had before he bought a Bellett sedan....photo attached.... Which I ended up buying from him in 1980 as my first car for a princely $600.
That show sure was a real crossover classic car/agricultural equipment show
Thanks for sharing.

AWESOME Dave, AWESOME.
I have attended a few shows over here like that, you do see some rare stuff.
That Cortina looks great??
Your Wasp looks considerably smaller than the missin Nissan
Lewis sedan was with me after Lewis, then I sold it on to Warren Degnan, not sure what happened to it after that Dave Bullett!!
Thanks for sharing, I will be going to Mudgee Show Saturday week, could be some rare stuff there also.

Well cheers guys; it was a rad event that's for sure.
Hey Josh I thought about doing the Powers of the Past as well; I went to that event a couple of years ago, but unfortunately....
IT'S ON THE SAME WEEKEND AS THE CLIPSAL 500!
AND SOUNDWAVE!!!
Just too much on during Adelaide's Mad March, that's for sure...

Yeah, it's MAD MARCH coming up alright.......Aaaaagh

Great show there Dave. A fellow tree faller also collected early chainsaws from yesteryear, and they were all goers. I helped demo these saws with him and also his purpose built racing saws. They were impractical monsters and nothing like the pro saws of today.
The Blitz was also used as a log mover in the old days and was popular amongst loggers, my Father in law had one.......no breaks, eeeek.
How many times have the uneducated mistaken my GT for an Alfa 105.....HOW MANY TIMES, DAVO???
