The Bellett

Post by Alex »

Hi Everyone, I'm Alex This is my 1967 1500 Bellett. I found this car just browsing on car sales. As soon as i saw this beauty i rang the owner up, the lady was in Melbourne at the time and said she would ring me as soon as she got back. After the long awaited call i went to go see the Little Bellett. At first I was a bit hesitant in buying it due the rust near the rear window and the ding in the back. I was surprised the Bellett started first pop and it hadn't been started for 2 weeks. Now it's in my hands i am keen in restoring it.

Hey Alex,

Welcome aboard the forum and congrats on the new purchase. It's always good to see car's from our For Sale section end up in the hands of enthusiastic forum members and someone else in SA... We'll have to organise that Bellett cruise soon after all. Anyway, with a bit of a clean and that ding sorted out she'll be a good classic little runner.

Are you keen to keep her original? Looks like it won't be too hard as the only obvious missing thing is the blanking plate for the stereo hole (easily filled with a decent stereo:))

Speaking of which, if you're looking for any parts post under the Wanted section and you'll be surprised what turns up!

Cheers,
Ross

Dude the red "Isuzu" in your horn ring is totally mint. That is awesome!

Welcome on board!

Despite your car's minor blemishes, you should stick it in the All Japan Day that's coming up (see events section). It's a heaps relaxed show that is about cars, not trophies!

I'm also going to put my ratter in the Kernewek Lowender festival Cavalcade of Cars (see events section, again). It's supposed to be pretty good.

Again, welcome to the site and glad to have another South Aussie... for a bit there I thought Ant, Ross and me were the only ones down here that cared....

Great buying, Alex! Looks as though you just beat another starter to it. Thanks for the pics. I believe yours is a '68 - the only give away (that I know of) is the horns both on the driver's side. Up to '67, they were 1 on each side.
Hope to see you at the nationals! Matt.

See you at "all Japan day" Alex. I'm imagining how awsome 1500 would have looked off the production line back in 67'. Yeah, even after 6 years !!! get some petrol into the carby and, voila !! We have ignition !! It'll keep for two weeks no worries.

Did a Tidy up of the Bellett on the weekend. painted wheels and polished hubbies, flushed radiator and installed a overflow tank. Sourced a oil filter for future service( Didn't realize how hard they are to find). Finally mucked around with some Rims, Didn't know the Bellett had the same stud pattern at the Dat.

Lookin' good :)

Yep, Bellett stud pattern is the same as old Datto's and Celica's (4x114.3) but the offset is different. Check under the wheels section for exact details. If you're going to buy some mag's just make sure they fit before you pay for them :)

The white wheels on my car have massive spacers front and back (massive being about 8mm and 4mm respectively ;)) because they are Celica wheels but they fit and don't look too bad.

Anyway, your little beastie is looking good for All Jap day. Now to organise a cruise before that so that we can see all the cars out in their natural environment. The Hills, not an oval :D

Thanks for posting the extra pics, it's always good to see what's happening with other members cars.

Cheers,
Ross.

I have Nissan Exa Turbo wheels on my Bellett - they are 14inch and the offset is pretty good with no spacers used.

There you go. Maybe the front wheel drive offset is what we were looking for all along :)

Hey, Alex - sorry to hear the bad news, but time passes quicker than you think (when you're young). This might be a good chance to put in some hours on the beast. Otherwise pm Zalan - he'll be excited!
Cheers, Matt.
