Bird twittering in valve gear

Post by GTtoo »

Did a tough run across Adelaide yesterday, lots of gear changing and loud pedalling. Got home to idle and noticed sound like a bird going twitter..twitter...twitter coming from the back of the engine under the tappett cover. It goes away when increasing revs, and the engine doesn't seem to lack power or anything. My first thoughts are something to do with valve stem or seal. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this.

Check for a manifold leak.

Thanks KB. You have put me on the right track for starters. But on closer inspection today, there was definitely a very loud tweeting sparrow inside the distributor. Lest not we forget the humble dizzy, needs some tlc every now and then. 10 minute fix. The points cam was as dry as a  :geek: needed spot of grease. A little WD40 down the shaft and the rotor reset to fit more snug on top...Voila!! No more screaching bird. Thank :!: nothing more terminal.

Cheers all, B.
