Could be a head gasket - any water in the oil. Is it steaming out of the exhaust pipe??

if it's only a very slight leak from the head gasket u won't get steam tho.
are u sure it's a 'leak' tho? i've seen them get a gut full of air in the system from not being totally full and it's creates an air lock. then when it's running the lock releases and the air goes to the top so the water level looks low when u check it again making u think ur losing water.
just a thought.

is exactly what my old 351 falcon did too.
basically got hot enuf to push water out the overflow and made it worse coz u couldn't keep it cool due to the air lock.
I'd run it without the cap on, let it warm up completely at just slowly top it up till it can't take anymore.
see how u go then coz that should get rid of any lock.
oh and make sure the heater is on full hot too coz if that's empty it'll make another lock when it's turned on again.

Hey Gricey,
I've fitted a recovery bottle to the Florian because every time the motor warms up it pushes some coolant past the cap through expansion. Just find a bottle that fits (A Triton ute one for Mary), connect the tube from the overflow & fit a recovery type cap. (Make sure it reaches the contact plate - The throat is deep.) As it cools down, it sucks the liquid back.
Wow, all moderny!
This prevents the green wee or rusty mess, depending what you run in there.

Cheers, Matt.

Hi Gricey, make sure you have the right radiator cap with the longer reach neck, had this problem years ago and found the cap did not seal the radiator properly.

ah yep good point with the long reach caps lads! fell into that trap myself.
new caps are easy to get. CPC brand, part no. 507/07 is the one u want.
coz they only use a 7 pound cap, maybe a new one is in order anyway as this prob mite just be water being pushed out without much pressure in the system?
