Re: Gt Disc brake upgrade
any more details ? any machining for example? It looks like a lot of meat has been taken from the caliper?yellowperil wrote:Hi all

It appears that rotor bolts direct to the hub ?
The other disk 'conversion' mentioned in these pages recently uses a vented rotor and will fit 13" wheels. It also uses relatively late model parts from a donor car which are fairly common in wrecking yards.http://www.bellett.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=3038

Re: Gt Disc brake upgrade
You're getting very close Glenn,
No machining of caliper but the large "spacer" in the bellett hub has had about 4-5mm machined off it so that the rotor runs in the centre of the calipers. The original caliper mount has to be re-tapped to take the Sigma caliper bolts which are just a few thou larger.
I took all the bits to a local auto engineering shop. He did it for mates rates including pads...but I know him fairly well.
His only lament was that I we couldn't fit ventilated rotors!!!

Re: Gt Disc brake upgrade
solids are fine in most cases. The disk conversion using the vented rotor ends up with 231mm diameter rotors. There is another model in same range as the specified donor car with a 250mm rotor which would probably work although 13" wheels then maybe an issue. I have a set of the 231mm ones per the conversion. I think the original takes a little off the outside dimension (largest) hub but i elected to take it out of the centre of the rotor. Its not much. http://www.bellett.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=3038yellowperil wrote:You're getting very close Glenn,

Its a backup in case i ever need to do the Sports brakes.
Another rotor that looks interesting is N16 Pulsar. Plenty of them about. (pictured) But wouldn't work with 13" rims. They are 257mm Diameter from what i see in DBA Cat. But this conversion is not Engineered as is the one that PR91 gave us some info on.

Re: Gt Disc brake upgrade
Hi YP.
When you bolted the disc to the hub. Did you use a bolt and nut or did you tap a thread into the disc.
Most of the discs that I was able to get and try were not threaded and there wasn't much room behind to
clear the the head of the bolts on the stearing arm. My concern is that the nut,if it worked loose, would foul
those bolts.
Dave.

Hi Dave
Good to hear from you. Hope you're well.
It was a bolt and nut to fix the rotor as used in the original Gt set up.

Re: Gt Disc brake upgrade
Or just put sedan drum brake hubs on it with the conversion I've already mentioned.....
Vented rotors, common, and fits inside 13" wheels.
